Sick

Why in the world is he still so sick.  They sent me home with Meds and I have been doing everything they told me to do.  He is still so very sick.  He will not do anything. I took him into the Animal ER on a Saturday.  They kept him until Monday morning at 7am.  Then I took him straight to my regular Vet and they put in back in the Hospital until that following Thursday.    I noticed that my dog kept lifting his right left paw up to me.  Not the one with the IV mind you.  I just thought it was that he wanted held.  He is a big baby and loves to fall asleep in my arms.  When I picked him up on Thursday he was not much better.  I thought maybe I took him home too soon.  I have had him home for 4 days now and he is not any better.  If anything he is worse.  I took him back to the Vet and she put him on a Pain pill.  He acted better for a couple of days.  After I ran out of pain meds he went back to laying around. Not wanting to get up go outside or nothing.  This is a very Hyper dog. He has gone down hill so fast it is scaring me.  They are telling me to bring him back and they will put him back in the hospital.  I am afraid to do that but on the other hand I am afraid not to.  I have already spent $950. to get him well and he is worse now than he was.  He is in pain when you pick him up.  He yelps when he walks.  WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY DOG!!!!  I seriously need help.

Thanks Cliff I really appreciate what you said.  I did take him to an old family Vet that I trust instead of the other one he was at.  They put him back into the hospital and said he is in Kidney failure.  possibly due to Dehydration or he could have gotten poisoned by Antifreeze.  Dr. Gary Duncan is hoping it is just from the Dehydration.  He said that he could turn around by Friday Aug 3 but if not than it is from the poisoning.  He may not bounce back from this.  I don't know of anyone who would do this and I have checked around my house to see if there was anything he could have gotten into that would do this.  There is nothing that I can see. This has been a very expensive experience I will tell you.  But when your kid is sick you take care of them.  Well, this is my kid.  Thanks again. Tonya45638

I wish I could help but I need more information. Any vomiting? diarrhea? poor appetite? how is his drinking and peeing? How old is he?
Any tests run and if so what were the results?
In the short term, get him back on the pain medication.
Let me know any more information if possible.
