Weepy eyed bunny

Weepy eyed bunny

I have a 7 year old Dutch Dwarf bunny. I noticed a couple of days ago that her left eye was a little runny. Yesterday her eye got worse. It is still goopy, and she is very sensitive to light. Her eyelid is swollen and sometimes she wont even open it. I was wondering if this could have been caused by something that got in her eye or if she may have bumped it. I was wondering how should i treat it???? please help! she is herself completely. she does not squawk and she is eating and drinking. I have been cleaning the eye with sterile water. what else can i do?

Thanks Ireneo!  Your rabbit should be taken to your veterinarian and have a tear test performed, a fluroscein dye test for corneal ulcers,  and other opthalmic diagnostic tests deemed necessary by your veterinarian.  Corneal ulcers and or dry eye, can be painful and lead to blindness if not treated.  However, dry eye, and corneal ulcers can be readily resolved if treatment is initiated in time.

If she has conjunctivitis ( an inflammation or infection) she'll need some meds to heal it up. It shouldn't be a problem to contact your vet and pick up a tube of eye meds.
