Wound That Won't Heal

Wound That Won't Heal

About 7 months ago, I noticed a bump on my dog's ear flap.  I've had 2 vets take a look at it (different vet offices), and neither one of them voiced any concern over it.  They basically told me that it would probably heal on its own and just seemed like a run of the mill bite/wound, probably a play bite she got on the ear at doggie day camp.

Eventually, the bump broke open, bled, and scabbed over.  And because my dog is very active, she is repeatedly breaking the scab open, the wound bleeds a bit, scabs over again, and the cycle continues.  I dab Neosporin on the wound and use Hydrogen Peroxide on it too.  Nothing seems to be working.

Is there anything I can do to protect this wound and finally stop the breaking/bleeding/scabbing over cycle so it can heal?  I'm just concerned that if this goes on too long, she'll get an infection.

Thanks.

Ear flaps wounds require stabelization in order to stop bleeding and aid healing.  You may have to place her ear flap flat against her head and wrap the bandage completely around her head, similar to a "tooth sore bandage".  Your vet may have to demonstrate placing this type of bandage for you, though after you are taught, you can place the bandage yourself, since they require bandage change every 2 to 3 days.  They should remain on for approximately 2 weeks total bandage time.
