Your dog may have a urinary tract infection.  Urinary tract infections are common and curable.

Acquire a urine sample from your dog.  Ask your vet if you can drop off the urine sample  for urinalysis.  If your vet refuses find another vet!  I think that your vet will have the urinalysis performed.  Since it probably is a urinary tract infection, and since your vet is so busy your vet may simply place your dog on antibiotics, until he/she can examine your dog.  Once you are able to see your vet, bladder X-rays may be performed to see if your dog has bladder stones, or a urine culture and sensitivity if the antibiotic has not been totally effective.  If your vet thinks that your dog may have kidney disease, he/she will perform blood work.
