dry skin

Hi, I have a black lab that is approximately 3 years old.  He is basically in very good health and a happy guy.  However, I seem to be fighting a losing battle for dry skin and excessive shedding.  I have been told that he was lacking fatty proteins in his diet.  We have had him on a diet for sensitive skin and added liquid proteins for this condition.  Per our vet, we provide baths to him every few weeks with medicated shampoo such as Epiderm.  There is quite a bit of flakly skin when he is brushed.

Is there anything else that can be given to him, to decrease the dry, flaky skin along with the excessive shedding.
Any help will be VERY greatly appreciated.

Staph infection  as well as mange  or yeast infections should be ruled out with an exam  and skin scrapings by your veterinarian. Seborrhea sicca can look like your descrption and sebolux or malaseb shampoos may help.
If all else fails I would consider a RAW diet on a trial basis to see if there is an improvement.
