good low phosphorous cat food?

good low phosphorous cat food?

I have a cat with beginning stage CRF and want to feed him a good quality LOW PHOSPHORUS content canned or pouch food. wellness canned is too high (don't know about the pouches), evo is too high, and perscription diets are awful and make him sick. I've been trying to get him to eat the frozen prepackaged raw food for several days, but he won't touch it. Any advice/suggestions?

Please continue to feed a good quality food such as Evo or Wellness as you have been doing.  Add Epakitin or Phoslo (Phosphate binders), available from your veterinarian, to control the phosphorus for now.  Gradually try switching your cat's food very slowly (a teaspoon at a time) by switching the frozen food for the Evo or Wellness food.  You may not be able to switch completely.  Stop when your cat refuses the food and go back to the proportion that your cat will tolerate.  It may be 1/4 low phosphorus food to 3/4 Evo, for example.  If you are lucky it will be 3/4 low phos to 1/4 Evo.

The worse problem in chronic renal failure is anorexia or inappetance.  If it is not possible to locate a low phosphate food that your cat enjoys please feed him what he likes.  Maintaining a good quality of life can be as important as a low phosphorus food.
