how to heal her

I was told that (blue heelers) should not be given the normal treatment, invertmiacin/ for red mange, she is only 5 weeks old, could I use a mixture of tea tree oil and mineral oil on her? the vet put her on anitbiotics, and I have been also treating her with mineral oil around eyes and benoyl peroxide 2.
i also was tole that fatty acids would help.

There is a fairly inexpensive DNA test that can determine if ivermectin is safe for your dog.  It was formulated for Collie breeds but can be used with any breed.  Ivermectin is really the most cost effective treatment for demodex mange.

Please check the following website for the DNA test:

If it does turn out that ivermectin is toxic for your dog the next best treatment is daily oral doses of Interceptor (the heart-worm preventative tablet) for 6 weeks.

There are other treatments for demodex but your dog is too young for them so they are not listed here.

Tea Tree oil is wonderful as an anti-microbial, and is good for sarcoptic mange, but it has not been shown to be effective against demodex mange.  As an anti-microbial, Tea Tree oil may help for secondary skin infections but should only be used in a dilute form.  Tea tree oil can cause allergic reactions in susceptible patients.  Your dog is a bit young for Tea Tree oil, and it's safety cannot be guaranteed in a pet so young.

Omega 3 Fatty Acid from a marine source is good for all skin conditions (and many other conditions including: the heart, brain, blood vessels, bladder, joints, and more).  The dose is by weight.  Begin with 50 mg of Omega 3's twice daily and increase the dose gradually as your pet gains weight.  Dose for a full grown dog of 50 pounds or more is 1000 mg twice daily.

Bathe your dog once per week with a medicated shampoo that is safe for dogs one month of age and older will help remove the dead skin and demodex debris.
