maltese sick

My 1yr old male maltese is sick. About 5 hours ago he started showing symptoms. He has the chills, wont eat or drink, yelps if i pick him up. I'm not sure what is wrong or what to do. I came home for lunch and i noticed him less active. I couldnt tell if he had gotten into something he wasnt suppose to and i thought maybe he has a broken bone. But I am able to check him thouroughly with my hands and lift each one of his legs and he doesnt whimper or yelp. I am not sure what is wrong or what to do please help.

Please have your Maltese seen by a veterinarian.  There are numerous things that can cause these symptoms many of which are very serious.

Toxins, foreign objects, parvo virus and much much more just start the list.

Little guys are usually not very resilient to problems - ie waiting is not likely to make things better and often result in poor outcomes.
