my dog was a wierd cough what is it

my dog has a wierd cough my friendss say he might have heart worms and other say he might have some thing in his thoart or asham pleas help its been happening for about  month

If your dog has not had a heartworm test or been on consecutive heartworm preventative than you really should take him to the vet ASAP and have him tested, and if positive have him treated.  Heart worm disease can be successfully treated these days.  

Other causes of coughing include: kennel cough, bronchitis, collapsing trachea, other forms of heart disease, pulmonary disease and others, and your vet should be able to make a definitive diagnosis.
