spinal injury

Hi there,
My Min Pin injured her neck and after treating her for 6 weeks with anti inflammatories, and pain medication, I took her back for a second series of x-rays.. She has very little space between her 2nd and 3rd disc in her neck... How serious is this?
Surgery may be an option, but is it worth the risk?   She is in a lot of pain, and doesn,t want to be near me, or sleep with me, or even to be held.
can she heal from this?  What are my options???
I hate to see her suffer...   The x-rays have been sent to a specialist, and I am waiting to hear from them...
Thank you,
Paula

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
It has been shown that veterinary acupuncture in conjunction with anti-inflammatories (steroids) and analgesics (tramadol and others) is highly effective and may be more helpful than anti-inflammatories and analgesics alone.  If surgery is not recommended, or if you choose not to have surgery performed,  than acupuncture is worth a try.  Why not have a series of  acupuncture treatments for your dog, and if you find that acupuncture is ineffective,  than surgery can always be performed as a last resort.

You can locate a veterinary acupuncturist in your area at The AHVMA (American holistic veterinary medical association) website, and the TCVM.com (Chi Veterinary institute) Website.
