Really sorry for your labs' problems. I have had labs for 40 years, and naturally we have dealt with many grave situations over the years.
It is heart breaking to see our "friends" getting older and dealing with their illnesses just like people.
I will pray for you and your lab, and the wisdom of your vet.
God bless.
David
Well at least some progress towards a diagnosis has been made. I am a little concerned that we are not there yet as fluid in the abdomen may be from many causes, including heart disease. Typically, however, if the abnormal rhythm was from heart disease the fluid int he abdomen would not be due to infection. If there was an infection int he abdomen, then toxins or other substances could affect the hearts rhythm. The fluid should be sampled and evaluated and ideally, if x rays are not conclusive both body cavities should have an ultrasound exam. Good luck!

well the news is that he has an irregular heartbeat and alot of fluid on his abdomen area and an infection from the fluid. going to try to tackle the fluid problem and infection first and then see about the heart problem. antibiotic and a water pill and another for his heart is what he is taking for now. hope it works out. taking him back monday for xray of chest and abdomen areas to see whats going on. thanks!
just dropped him off at the vet and he has an irregular heartbeat right now but the doc said it may be from him being sick. they are running tests and should be getting answers soon. will keep you posted with the news.
See a veterinarian immediately, as your dog may have life threatening conditions such as bloat, a bleeding mass on the spleen or other diseases that cause a swollen abdomen.
