My dog had a growth removed from her elbow Dec 8th 2011 and will not heal. She has had surgery 3 times to close it, but it re opens within hours of stitches being removed. My vet wants to do Flap surgery on Oct 31st. he will bring a flap from the shoulder to cover her elbow. I am frighten that I will end up with 2 wounds instead of one. Anyone had this kind of surgery on there dog?
I have performed this surgery many times and a flap procedure is the right way to go. Elbow surgeries are difficult to close due to the tightness of the skin in that area while shoulder surgeries are easier to close so I do not believe you will have a problem.
