Blood In Urine

by P.Smith, Aug 01, 2007 10:03PM
I have a 10 year old female queensland, she has started urinating blood to day, along with urinating constantly, like she can't empty her bladder all the way. I have no idea how long she has been like this? What do think is going on? Is there something I can do? Please Help. Thank You P.Smith

A likely cause is a severe urinary tract infection.  However, she may have stones in her bladder, in addition to the UTI and/or a kidney infection.  At 10 years of age she could have a kind of bladder cancer such as transitional cell carcinoma.  If she has not been spayed she could have pyoderma, which is an infection of the uterus.

Please take her to the veterinarian ASAP.  Bring a fresh urine sample with you.  The vet will perform a urinalysis, and probably a bladder or abdominal X-Ray and/or abdominal ultrasound.  Bloodwork will have to be performed if it is not a routine UTI.
