My 2 year old dog was spayed 2 weeks ago now. 3 days after her being desexed I took her to the vets for her first checkup. "they include a 3 day and a 10 day checkup". As my dog bounced back from the surgery quite quickly I did not take her in for the 10 day examination "as they had said it would not be necessary if she was well".
On the 12th day my dog started to bleed from her vulva, it is almost like she is in heat. The bleeding is quite constant but she seems to be in good spirits. I rang the vets a day after she had started bleeding and asked if it was normal. They had told me that they would not discuss it over the phone and I was to bring her in for an $80 consultation. I told them that I was only 2 days late of my free 10 examination "which i thought was incoporated into the cost of the surgery" and I could not afford the consultation. Is this bleeding a result of shoddy surgery or is it normal for dogs who have been on heat before to come onto heat after being desexed??

the significance of this bleeding could be minor such as an infection or slight bleeding from the uterine stump sutures, or a more serious problem. In any case she should be seen immediately for a diagnosis and proper treatment.
In my opinion they should see you at no consult fee especially in this case of only 2 days after a scheduled follow up. If they find a complication, those are usually handled at normal clinical rates as medicine does not come with guarantees. I cannot speak for this clinic, but good practices would say they should examine the pet for you.
In any case, please have her seen so this does not progress into something more serious.

I hear that some dogs after being spayed can go on heat due to the hormone change. Is that possible?
