heart murmur

by Victorialynn83, Aug 04, 2008 03:12PM
My kitty is 1 years old and was just told that my kitty has a mild to moderate heart murmur, should i get another opinion since I last took her to the vet 6 months ago? She never had one when she was a kitten, and at this time I can't afford to get anything done for another month or so, what should i do? she's always running around with her sister and jumping on everything. she has a lot of energy..what can cause a heart murmur?

If she has already been spayed than her heart was already up to the task of helping her survive a routine, but serious surgery.

Having a heart murmur is not a death sentence, and is often just an incidental finding.  It would be best, however to eventually have an echocardiogram to determine if her heart requires heart medication to perform normally.   Many heart murmurs are innocent (not serious) and require no medication.

Heart medication's are usually quite effective, if necessary, are not expensive, and your cat should be able to have a normal life, when treated.
