LAXATIVES AFTER RECOVERY

by anaid14, Jun 13, 2009 11:54AM
Hello!

I've been refeeding for about a week and I had edema because I was
restricting and vomiting. I've never used laxatives or anything...but
I have a week without going to the restroom...I am feeling really full and
uncomfortable. Would u recommend me to use ONCE a laxative? Or
what could I do? I wat a lot of fiber, water and I excercise 3-4 times a week
I would say in a medium level.

My mom and my sister use laxatives daily, so I have an easy access to them...
but I do not want to mess up with my liquids after that edema. What would you recommend?
If I use them one time would my liquids mess up again?
What other alternatives could I use?

Thanks

=)

Speak to the professionals that are monitoring your refeeding.  I would never recommend laxatives, especially with your history, current condition, family use of laxatives, etc.  Refeeding and edema is a very delicate matter.  You want to be monitored closely medically.  Visit the bella vita website to learn more about anorexia and treatment options.  Best regards, Dr Patricia Pitts  The Bella Vita  Los Angeles, CA

hi.. i think the cause of you not going to the bathroom is due to lack of fluids,, you've said you're restricted to take fluids due to edema? anyway, you can at least try to take one laxative to remove the waste that should be removed,,

but never take laxatives daily,, it would cause you to be dependent on it and may cause you more constipated when you rely too much on them.

as much as possible try to drink water at least 6-8 glasses a day that would help you a lot,

other alternatives may be sitting on the toilet for at least 15mins, waiting for something to come out, or try to walk around,, eat as much fiber, or you can try to eat some fruits like papaya, or even oranges,, and you can also try yogurt and milk,,

hope this helps..
