Questions in the Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Forum are being answered by Dr. Patricia Pitts, PhD, a Clinical Psychologist from The Bella Vita Program - CA.
I have been in recovery for 2.5 years with several slight relapses, but this is the biggest one. I am 5'6" and weigh 90 pounds in my underwear only. My mom suggested a 2500 calorie meal plan, but I am worried this is too many calories. I would really like to reach 95 pounds as soon as healthily possible. What do you suggest? Please reply ASAP! Thanks!!
I would highly suggest medical, nutritional and psychological support. At your low weight, you may need to do a refeeding program. Starting at a low calorie amount and add 150 calories per day while being medically supervised. Too quick of a weight gain can cause electrolyte imbalances and could impact your heart. Anorexia keeps reappeating until we deal with the underlying issues effectively. Best, Dr Patricia Pitts Los Angeles, CA
