13 and Scared:(

13 and Scared:(

Hello, im 13yrs old and im really worried. I have naturally been ill for a week now with a viral infection and dehydration. Thats all been sorted now and i have medication and stuff, but i went back to the doctors because i wasn't eating properly because i always feel sick. I felt like my body was rejecting my food. The doctor told me i will feel like this because of my viral infection. She said just keep drinking and try to eat small portions of food throughout the day. I've also been having anxiety because of worrying because i did actually pass out due to my dehyrdration and low blood sugars. Im fine with these though because i have been checked out and everythings normal and im not worrying about that its just before i went to the doctors, my mum rang a national health line number up to ask for the best advice. They said to her i could have the start of anorexia. That is what im so scared about. Then after this i went to the doctors and thats when she said it wont be that. She said not to worry about what they said because they wasnt actually looking at me and properly knew what was wrong because they didnt actually see me they just diagnosed over the phone. She said that i am perfectly healthy and if i keep drinking plenty of fluids and eat as best i can i shall pick up and stop feeling sick. Since then i have been eating but im still worried because i am quite skinny and i had lost a couple of pounds when i wasn;t eating at all. i weigh six stone, but i have weighed this for ages even before i came ill. I am really scared i will get anorexia because i do eat throughoout the day i just don't eat loads. Do you think my weight is OK for a skinny 13yr old. Im not anorexia now. you can't see my bones or ribs or anything its just im skinny. Plz heelp.

This is a very temporary illness and you wont become anorexic from it. In many illness the body reserves its energy for healing and not processing food.

Drink some good broths and juices. People can go a long time without solid food and suffer no harm.

Trust your body it is doing what God made it to do and YOU WILL BE OK

You're okay, and it's much better to eat small amounts throughout the day than 3 big meals.  This keeps your blood sugar level and keeps your metabolism high so you won't put on weight.  Just make sure that what you do eat is healthy.  Drink plenty of water,  low sugar Gatorade, and orange juice to keep your electrolytes in balance.  When they are off you will feel nauseous and weak.  Also try to eat a banana everyday to help with your potassium. You DO NOT have Anorexia, eat and drink healthy and you will feel good again. Stop worrying and enjoy being a teenager.  Take care!!!

Drink organic liquid soup, you can buy it in a jar or package at the health food store. Drink water five times a day and alternate with juices. Suck on popcicles, your favorite; grape is really good. Eat whole stone ground bread with a little jam. Cut up some apples and celery and fruits. You could also make a wonderful frozen blue-berry and frozen fruit shake with almond milk and you can even throw in a banana. If you feel better, make yourself a winter comfort food like a nice tuna fish sandwich on stone ground don't forget to add the lettuce  and a little onion. Or a great organic peanut butter sandwich on quinoia bread. Take a trip to your closest health food store. Stay pure and live well. :) AprilAnne Arwood
