17 year old kid worried, does this sound like anxiety? read and answer please!!!

by joeyx3mcr, May 31, 2007 12:00AM
I had an "anxiety attack" about 2 months ago, and ever sense have not felt right.

I have had off and on chest pain and heavyness, it tends to move through my chest though, some lower back pain, a little bit of tightening feeling around the roof of my mouth, and around my jaw, shakyness, and just all around not really feeling like myself.

does this sound like anxiety or something more serious that needs to be looked at by a doctor?

what is the odds of a seventeen year old having heart problems or something like that?

Let me know, thanks.

It's very rare to have heart problems.  What are you worry about?  Are you seeing councelor?   I always worried I had heart problems and it came out nothig. Talk to me why do you worry about stuff?

Are you experiencing a lot of stress in your life, Joey? Is life being good to you? Stress and anxiety are really tough on our bodies..... We'd like to try and help....just give more detail if you can.

kind of stressed out but not really...

I just dont feel like myself, I dont feel good, It tends to seem that I have no energy, but I still go outside and mess around and all.

I really dont know anything about this beacuse its never happened to me before and Ive never had to go to the doctors and never had anything medically wrong with me before.

heart conditions and stuff dont run in my family either, but I still am conserned.

You definitely can be experiencing anxiety..for I found it does not discriminate based on age or any other factor!  First, however, you need to go to your doctor and get a complete physical.  Tell him about your symptoms and have him do a total work-up.  I would also ask him to do a thorough check on your heart.  I doubt that you have any heart problems, but you first must make sure that it is nothing physical.. Most likely, all will come back normal.  Then you get yourself a good psychiatrist.  I know a 17 year old does not feel that this is necessary and are probably too busy to do this, but you have to see if you are suffering from anxiety or not.  you can then discuss with him ways of treating it.  There is talk therapy, behavior therapy, and also medications..but all this needs to be discussed.  You will be better before you know it...but follow through on everything...you do not want to get stuck in anxiety.

Joey, My first anxiety attack I was scared I thought it was a heart attack my life was over I felt chestpains shortness of breath and my arm was tingling I called 911 cause I really thought it was a heart attack but thank god it wasn't . Can you make an appointment with your doctor and you will feel so much better  when they tell you  your fine and then in the mean time make appointment to see a councelor you will improve cause you are helping yourself I know how it feels we all do. Can you do that for me?

Joey,
I agree with the previous poster that you should go to the doctor for a complete check up. Not knowing what may be wrong just causes more anxiety. Going to the doctor will bring you peace of mind. None of us LIKE doing that, especially tennagers, but it's definitely the best thing to do. You'll be glad you did.

Look her in the eye and say, "Mom, I am really worried and anxious about how I've been feeling. Will you please let me go to the doctor? I need it for my peace of mind." If she doesn't do that, ask her if someone else can take/go with you.

Joey,

based on the your questions and reponses to posters over the past few weeks I am going to make this answer blunt:

chest tightness and pain in the jaw could indicate that you have heart problems.  There are many heart conditions that are NOT age discriminatory and there are many people younger than you that require treatment for such conditions.   I suggest, like I did when you posted over a week ago, that you go to the doctor for a full physical.  Whether or not your mom will take you is irrevelant - just think outside the box (take your MOPED, have your friends or neighbour drive you, take public transport, take a cab etc. etc. etc.).

BTW: how did you manage to age by a year over the last week?????

I know what you mean about the age he said he was 18 yrs old now 17 years old. I guess he is so nervous.
