Oh man, I know where you're coming from, I'm also a young guy, a year younger than you.

The first time I had a panic episode, the same thing came over me, horrible feeling, thought that was it, lightheaded, pounding heart, and felt terrified. I got mine under control quick though, because I knew beneath all the horrid feelings of doom and despair there was really no basis for it. It all stems from an irrational root, these panic episodes. When you don't know what they are, that's where they scare you the most because you can't tell which is which - it is a genuine organic problem or is it just mental in origin?

Read up on anxiety, and the mechanism behind it, I think this is the first step to really getting a handle on your anxiety, plus it educates you on what triggers the anxiety and how you respond to anxiety physiologically, that would be how "anxiety alarm" that we all have effects our hearts and breathing, and why we feel they way we do. The symptoms of anxiety have many relations to other problems and because of that, we feel uncertain when anxiety strikes, we don't if what we're experiencing is something to have valid concern over, or if it is something we can just brush off with time and exposure. Its true a lot of people with bad anxiety think something is wrong with them physically, but the truth is, it all stems from our mental landscape. I've read that anxiety in general can have something around a hundred or more symptoms, so believe me, you are not alone and what you describe is pretty much mainstream I suppose. Everyone that has responded has said the same about theirs, and the I felt the same too.

In response to how to conquer the fears, there are many, many ways to conquer them and yes you will get over them, but it takes time and most of all, persistance. The best thing to do, is manage stress or eliminate it. Also, what you eat plays a big role in how you feel (emotionally) so read about foods that may trigger anxiety and read about foods and supplements that keep it at bay. A healthy diet isn't just for physical health, it is also important for mental health as well. One thing I will say, is do not turn to alcohol, that will only make the anxiety worse. Dependance on alcohol is no good. It doesn't bring any long-term solutions.

Try relaxation therapy, just take time each day to relax completely. It isn't perfect at first, but over time as you get more "skillful" with it, it will become easier and you'll find yourself becoming relaxed. Its helped me, you should give it a try.

By all means, do see a psychiatrist about this, they will help to a get a grip on it and fight into oblivion. Medication is there if you need it, the meds won't fix the problem in most cases but they are to help if you are having a hard time.

Best wishes, and take care.

Panic attacks at their finest! They are horrible, I know. You need to see a therapist and a psychiatrist. They can get you back on track. Your irrational fears of dying, the racing heart etc., all very common symptoms of the panic and anxiety. But you do not have to suffer, there are many who have the same problems. I used to be one of them. I still have a bit of hypochondria and I am working on it but its manageable.

I can so relate to what you are experiencing.  I can't tell u how many trips I made to the ER swearing I was having a heart attachk.  My bp would be high but it was due to anxiety.  Panic attacks are horrible.  My advice is try to distract yourself.  One thing that helped me was to say my multipication tables in my mind.  Sounds crazy but it helps get your mind off of what u r feeling. anti deppresants also helps.  Unless someone has experienced a panic attack they have no idea what they feel like.  Hang in there, it will get better.

Your fears started with your job. Being a failure at work can cause tremendose stress and lead to all kinds of anxiety problems. Focus on your work, figure out why you did not hit your target. Your fear of dying is most likely that your subconscience is wanting to die rather than jeprodize your work.
