28 Year Old Anxiety!

I am 5"10 about 270 (I am trying to lose weight) prior military suffering from PTSD and Osteoporosis (Recently diagnosed). I've never been one to suffer from anxiety, or have panic attacks, until last week some time. It started around bed time, I laid down to get some rest for the evening, all was well, until while I was relaxed, my heart started racing, and I could not sleep. I started to think the worst possible things, such as a heart attack. My grandfather passed away January 8th, so I think some of it could be related to that, but when I get sad about it, I cry, I let it out. I am very vocal and outward about what is bothering me, so it confuses me why I would be suffering anxiety related to that. I have an appointment with a DR Monday morning, so I am here asking if anyone has any home remedies to help calm me down. I take a bath and read a book which works for a while, but as soon as I am done doing something, it starts again. I am having a lot of the same things that I see on this site when I search Anxiety and Burping or Gas. We were at a concert last night, and the entire time, I had to use the bathroom relentlessly, and my heart started racing, so I went over to the EMT, I had a heart rate of around 114bpm, but everything else seemed normal. I just don't get it, and I am sick of this, it really scares me. Like another post I saw on here, even trivial tasks get my heart going faster. My left arm also seems weaker, but I think that in part has to do with my mind. Any thoughts or help would be fantastic!

Sounds like classic anxiety/panic. When you were diagnosed with PTSD, did you get into therapy? I also have PTSD and most people think that's just another way of saying anxiety, but it's a far more insidious disorder.

The death of your grandfather is undoubtably a part of what triggered your panic attack. The fact that you can let your sadness and grief out by crying is a very healthy way of  coping with his loss, but the anxiety and panic are coming from something deeper.

It's good that you will be seeing your doctor soon. Anxiety can cause all sorts of physical symptoms, but you should never ignore any cardiac symptoms. Only after all the tests have ruled out a cardiac disorder should anxiety be ruled in.

Anxiety/panic/agoraphobia/depression............these scare all of us. You're not alone in being frightened nor are you any less of a person or a man.

See your doctor, have a cardio work up, a long discussion about your PTSD and subsequent panic attacks and talk about getting into therapy.

As for home remedies to help you calm down, distraction of any kind is really the best, but you can't stay busy 24 hours a day. You had the bath and reading down, and those are good. Herbal teas work for some folks. Go over to the Complimentay Medicine Forum and those folks can give you a lot more ideas than I can. Most of us here are in the pharmaceutical camp.

With self-honesty, a lot of hard work, therapy, perhaps some meds, and talking to those of us who have been where you are...........you can and will recover.

We are always here. Post anytime you want to talk.
Peace
