Reading everyone's concerns on this message board (along with my concerns) I thought it might be a good experiment(and a helpful reference guide for everyone) to list ALL the symptoms they have had and ALL the tests that have come back normal and ALL the specialists they have seen that have concluded that it was all anxiety. If you can put it in a LIST FORM with no back story so it is easy to reference that would be great. The idea here is that we can help eachother by revealing the range of symptoms that anxiety can produce ... this might ease all of our minds and help us get back to the life we were intended to live ... HAPPY and HEALTHY : )
Here is my list:
HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
FOGGY HEAD, CONCENTRATION PROBLEMS
PINS AND NEEDLES FEELING
IMBALANCE WHILE WALKING
PAIN BEHIND THE EYES
COLD TOES/COLD FINGERS
FLOATERS IN VISION
TESTS TAKEN THAT CAME BACK NORMAL:
EMERGENCY ROOM EKG
4 BLOOD TESTS
DOCTORS/SPECIALISTS I'VE SEEN WHO SAY IT'S ALL ANXIETY RELATED:
MY PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR
EMERGENCY ROOM DOCTOR
It doesn't seem to be related to anxiety or panic attacks. It just will happen. For no apparent reason. It's just another reason why I can't accept the anxiety diagnosis. Also, I have shortness of breath that happens out of the blue. For example, I was just brushing my teeth and started to feel so out of breath. This is crazy. I was just brushing teeth, not stressed about anything or feeling any anxiety. But once the shortness of breath happened my mind goes nuts.
The scary thing about anxiety is that you can have symptoms anytime anywhere. They can all happen independly and seem unassociated. Thats what was happening to me... but realizing its just anxiety and taking meds really helped me out a ton!
I have anxiety attacks. I saw a therapist to help me find out what causes them and found out that most times it is a chemical imbalance. I found out I had 3 times the testostrone in my body. Also, ended up having a dermoid on my ovary. The therapist helped me to manage the attacks. Also, since I have leveled my testostrone levels and had the dermoid removed I have done better. Anxiety is when your body gets too much of the chemical that causes your fight or flight senses. I also realized that there were some things in my past that also triggered them. Please continue to seek help. I now take Zoloft and spirotalactin (sp) and it has helped me so much.
ACHES IN BACK/CHEST/SHOULDER (LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE)
TINGLING IN FACE/EYES
TINGLING IN ARMS/LEGS
FEELING LIKE I'M ABOUT TO DIE
HOLTER MONITOR - 2 WEEKS
UPPER GI SERIES
C-SPINE MRI---BULGING DISK FOUND
BRAIN MRI W/ AND W/O CONTRAST--SINUS INFECTION
ARTERIAL BLOOD GASES--LOW BECAUSE OF HYPERVENTILATION
I just wish the bug crawling feelings would go away, and stay away forever. Next round of testing will be EMG, SSEP, AND VEP.
Hopefully I don't have to get the lumbar puncture, I'm not to fond of needles.
What Lyme test did you take and with what kind of doctor. If you took the basic ELISA test, that is not enough. You need to get a Westen Blot test done by a top lab like Igenex. I know this sounds like I'm being too picky, but that is the only way to test for Lyme correctly. Also, you need to see a Lyme Literate Doctor (usually referred to as an LLMD). What area of the country are you in ?
For all of you looking for a list of anxiety symptoms here is a really good website for you to check out:

Hi, it was nice to come across your posting. I keep thinking I have the same diseases that others people feel they have (ie, lupus, MS, chronic fatigue syndrome, lyme disease, fybromyalgia) with the same types of symptoms. I go on Feb. 1 for an MRI (that day can't come soon enough) and then to the Neurologist on Feb. 6th. I am HOPING it is only anxiety...isn't it sad to wish that...but it is much better than what I am imagining these days. I don't know how long the waits are in the USA for MRI's but this has been the longest 2 months in my life. (and that is a very SHORT time to wait for an MRI in Canada)
-Fatigue (lots--worse in a.m. gets better thru day)
-Leg, foot and arm on left side has occasional heaviness that comes and goes
-muscle twitches all over body
-migraines (have had 10 yrs +)
-cold hands (sometimes clammy)
-cold feet (sometimes clammy)
-excessive armpit sweating
-hard time falling asleep and staying asleep
-lost 14 lbs in 2 months
-loss of appetite
-one eye seems unclear at times
-glands on back of head sometimes pop up and get sore
-clumsy (feel like hands don't work properly sometimes)
-ER Doc who did CAT scan with migraine
-2nd ER doc when I went in with the symptoms above (she thinks it is stress related)
-Pshychologist (who agreed that lots of those are anxiety related but did not dismiss until other tests are performed)
-Nurse friend (thinks it is anxiety or Chronic Fatigue)
Hi my name is Jen 26 yrs old, and i have had an anxiety disorder since i was 19yrs old.I have also seen alot of Dr's about heart palpatations, sweating pain in chest, and shortness of breath. I have also gone for tons of test blood test, heart test, and they tell me its anxiety as well.
My biggest concern now is i still get heart palpatations, chest pain and now for the past week I can't breath, cant get enough oxygen, this has happened to me before and eventually I got back to normal, i don't know is it underlying stress that is causing this breathlessness??? I don't have a racing heart, and i'm not really worried about anything! I'm afraid to go back to the dr's just for them to think that i am a hypocondriact,my file must be huge with all the visits.
I was at work the other day and i couldn't catch my breath it was like i had just gone running...it was so difficult to breath and embarrassing because i was always gasping for air i could barely talk with customers. Has anyone experienced this before or give me advice on what i should do? Thank you
PALPITATIONS-- (RANDOM FLUTTERS EVERYDAY EVEN WHEN ITS NOT FULL BLOWN PANIC)
CONSTANT FEAR OF "THAT ONE FATAL PALPITATION"
FEELING LIKE I COULD DIE AT ANY MOMENT EVERYDAY
SHORTNESS OF BREATH
ER EKG NORMAL
ER BLOOD WORK NORMAL
ER CHEST X RAY NORMAL
STRESS ECHO NORMAL
ABOUT 4 OTHER EKGS NORMAL
OTHER BLOODWORK NORMAL
WHAT THE HELL IS CAUSING THESE PALPITATIONS! THEY SAY STRESS AND PANIC CAUSES PALPITATIONS BUT ITS BECAUSE OF MY PALPITATIONS THAT I HAVE STRESS AND PANIC! SO YOU CAN SEE THE PROBLEM I HAVE ACCEPTING MY ANXIETY IS THE CAUSE!
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF UNDERLYING STRESS CAN CAUSE DAILY PALPITATIONS UNRELATED TO A DIRECT PANIC EPISODE?
DOCTERS SAY -- PANIC = PALPITATIONS
MY REALITY -- PALPITATIONS = PANIC
Heart pounding-fast heart rate
chest pain (no always- not recently)
hand and feet pricks, numbness
shortness of breath
unable to focus- kinda dazed feeling
Hot when attack and cold after
Uncontrollable fear of the worst thing happening (pass out, die, go crazy)
Tests I had done
Complete physical- normal
24h Holter monitor- normal- though fast
Tilt test- POSITIVE- i passed out after drugs were in me
(DX: neurocardiogenic syncope but when looking it up it just doesnt fit my symptoms. Treatment was nothing, to lie down if about to pass out and that it should correct itself on its own)
I just have to say that this was a great idea. I saw some postings that included things that I have felt but never linked to panic! Knowing that panic is something that I have to face on my own some times will make me feel separated and distant from those around me and who I "was." But it really helps to know Im not as alone as I feel.
I feel a kind of relife stubbleing across this site, and all of you. Fear of dying randomly.
Shaking (inside and out)
Feeling like I can't breathe
Irritable bowel syndrome (I relate this as an affect from the years of anxiety wrecking havoc on my body)
I don't take meds.
I am in the process of blood work etc. I need to see an allergist though, cause my mouth tingles and I know I have allergies and am afraid I'm going to die when I eat. I had tons of tests as a child due to my anxiety. All I had was a few allergies, minor ones at that.
Here is my list: Muscle twitching
Neck pain and back pain
Fluttering in middle of my chest
Bad headaches which I think comes from my neck tension
Can't concentrate at times
Feeling like I am going to lose all control
Feeling like it is impossible to relax
Sleeping is always a difficult thing
Obsessing over things that could be wrong with me.

inability to sleep
random ear pains
difficulty swallowing(feeling as if a piece of food would not go down)
I have not had tests yet, but was told I had OCD/Anxiety Disorders after my third trip to the Emergency Room for something that had no meaning. When I get insurance(2 weeks) Ill be going to the doctor...the psychologist.

im also a chronic marijuana user..
i live in aust.
Drs: GP numerous times
Neurologist 3 times
emerg room 1 time
Opthalmologist 2 times
Optometrist 2 times
Tests: MRI, CT Scan, ECG brain scan, blood tests
i had recently given up on drs but its winter here and my new cold is getting worse, causing me further distress. might have to go back for a checkup :)
Tingling (feet, calves, hands, forearms, face, tounge, and sometimes inside body cavity or in heart)
Pounding heart beat
Extra heart beats (palps increasing over the years)
Chest pain / tightness
Short of breath
Difficulty swallowing (lump in throat that won't go away)
Cold hands and feet
Flushing (mostly chest, face, but also full body at times)
Trembling / Shaking
Sunburned / Electric Shock feeling (patches of skin, tounge, scalp)
Fear of dying / impending doom (CONSTANTLY)
Racing thoughts (my mind is a riotous cacophony of noise)
Ringing in ears
Visual disturbances (floaters, fuzzy edges, white flashes, edge of vision "pulses" with heart beat)
Inability to fall asleep when exhausted OR unable to STAY asleep
These feelings happen every day in any given combination of symptoms, with no rhyme or reason.
Description of my "symptoms" during a typical panic attack in order:
Rapid POUNDING Heart Rate
Feeling like I'm about to die
Cold hands, feet / Coldness creeps up arms and legs approaching my body cavity
Lightheaded / Dizzy
Hands Tremble / Knees shaking
Chest feels tight / Short of breath followed by a cold numb feeling in chest wall
Feeling of heartbeat disappears / Check pulse still there but very faint and rapid
At that point I go to bed and allow it to pass. In the beginning (7years ago) I was convinced that one of these "attacks" would eventually kill me. Through all of my visits to doctors and having many tests run they have all concluded it is anxiety and panic disorder.
Doctors I have seen:
ER Doctors (too many to count)
2 Primary Care Physcians
Cardiologist (same one 5 times)
Tests I've had performed:
ECG's (too many to count)
Echocardiogram (ultrasound of heart)
Event recorder (one month)
MRI of brain
2 Chest X-rays
Chest CT Scan
Abdominal CT Scan
Blood work (too many to cover here, all normal)
After all of these tests they have NEVER found anything wrong with me! Everyone always says anxiety. I was agoraphobic at one point (before I accepted it as anxiety disorder), but still have social anxiety, and I am a hypocodriac with EXTREME health anxiety focused mainly on my heart. Reading others lists has reassured me that it is just anxiety. Thanks to all for sharing!
About 10 days ago, I had my first panick attack.. on a perfect saturday morning. I can say with confidence this was one of the most horrifying experiences I had ever been through.
Since I didnt know what was happening to me, I hyperventilated. Then went to ER, only to be diagnosed as suffering from Anxity/panick attack.
Afterwards, I met with my PCP, and he prescribed Ativan (as needed for attacks) and Paxil (once a day).
There are several things that I am confused about:
(1) It appears all of a sudden the frequency of episodes has increased since the first outbreak. Is that normal? I experience 2-3 attacks now daily, not severe, but with tingling in hands/feet, sweating, and heavy heart. But it appears I am more aware of the disorder, so am having more attacks. Is that true?
(2) What do you do if you see an attack coming at work? I took Ativan for one yesterday, and had to take the day off. That is terrible.
(3) I feel terrible in the morning when I wake up, if I take Paxil at night. Today I vomitted. Do you recommend any other med that I can talk to my PCP about?
(4) Is there a specific timing I can take the med to avoid attacks during work hours?
(5) How many people go from sudden outbreak to no attacks after continued preventive meds like Paxil?
I am very nervous, as this has started to affect my routine life. My poor wife is always on her toes..
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> My symptoms>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Shortness of breath / hyperventilation
Sweating in palms/feet
Tingling sensation in back, head, arms, palms
Sometimes, chest pain (left side) just before the attack, kind of sharp pain
I have had this brain fog, pressure in the head, fatigue, anxiety/depression thing for almost 9 months now. I have had every test in the book. All I can say here is that doctors have so many labels and names for 'conditions' that they can't solve it is ridiculous. There has to be something organic going on with me and they say nope...you are just too stressed and have to start exercising more and eating right. What garbage! I did have a great deal of stress...two ablations with complications then I finally got better, only to have this happen to me. All the doctors think it was because of my medical history that I am just hypo now. Don't give up folks. I have had a negative elisa for Lyme, but I suspect that this could still be my trouble. I could be wrong, but either way, it is a real problem. Something is plaguing me, and it is more than my own thoughts. If anyone finds any answers, please post them here or send them to my namesake at hotmail.

weening of zoloft 25 mg every other day
important background note: have not worked in 15 months:::;
Heart fluttering randomly, sometimes lasting hours..
Tense in neck,jaws shoulders
Feel muscles (like a whole leg or arm) pulling in towards body and tensing up
Extreme anti-socialism (feel ashamed walking down street, etc., avoid people I know)
Cannot wait in lines (as soon as I get in the store I glance at the register. Today, there was no one in line but suddenly 2 people stood in line--I hadn't even done my shopping yet!-- and instantly I got all---aaaarrrrrgh!. The whole time I am in line I fret over each second of the people's transactions)
Cannot handle bad drivers--even when they are BEHIND ME or GOING THE OTHER WAY!!
Soon after I get up,read paper, have coffee, etc, I go back to bed. Lay around or sleep 20 hrs/day
Will do nothing constructive then fret about conditions(totally clustered apt, etc.)
Heavy sighing at anytime--it even catches ME by surprise
When arriving in a group function I cannot avoid, immediately start belching or deep loud yawning
Absolutely know activity
No energy but plenty of anger energy in a split second
I too have had many panic attack related situations, and have feared that there is more wrong with me than I thought. Sometimes it was so hard to decide what was actually "real" or what was in my head. I had my worst episode in college when I was 21, I literally thought I would never be able to function like that. After getting on Celexa (40mg - this will differ depending on your severity) and it changed my life. It took a good month to stop having the full blown panic attacks, but life did get back to normal. I know that there are times when you think, "what if I have to feel like this forever", well, you won't. This too shall pass, I promise. I had all of your symptoms, I went to the ER 6 times in one month - I know how serious it can be and how terrifying it is. After 3 years of Celexa. I eventually stop taking the medicine. I just recently, now 27, have decided to get back on it to weed away the little anxiety that has started to creep its ugly head once again. I am not having near the symptoms I had before because I fully understand my disease. Don't get me wrong, I do still have some symptoms and fear the all mighty "DEATH", but I have gotten back on Celexa about 2.5 weeks ago and I already feel much better. If you are still feeling the way you are after about 4 to 6 weeks on your meds, than you may need to have your doc up your meds or get a medication that works for. There are so many antidepressants out there, that sometimes your body needs to adapt to right drug to feel the full effect. Remember, your doctor is there to help you, so don't develop more anxiety by calling them and telling them how you are still feeling. They don't think you are hypochondriac, because they understand what you are feeling and dealing with. And, if they don't, find a new doctor that is willing to work out all the kinks with you. They do exist. I have a doctor that I can call on the phone, and that is priceless when you are dealing with anxiety. I think all of us on this site is to have someone tell us that, "it's going to be okay". So let me be the first to say, "you will be okay and you are not dying of anything, this really will pass".
-shortness of breath
-feel like throat is closing sometimes
-feeling like i will pass out
-ALWAYS worried that these symptoms are life threatening
waiting on thyroid, cholesterol, and sugar tests.
DOCS that say anxiety:
I have had Panic Attacks for YEARS. Since i was little. I am 42 now and my Mother just passed away suddenly in late july, so i am having Panic/Anxiety/Depression ripping through me like knife on a daily and even hourly basis.
Syptoms? Many.But the Worst?:
FEAR/TERROR, for hours and hours some times, just a feeling of impending doom and terror. Like Im in some sort of dream and can't wake up
Nightmares- Horrible things, that wake me into a deep panic attack. I can't even escape them while sleeping.
Sweating, always hot.
FEAR...did i mention FEAR!?!?!?!
I am on Lexapro and Klonipin, and when i go to the ER I am given Ativan.
Colestorol is a bit high, BP can go a bit high during attacks, but all else looks ok.
LAst friday I was taken to the ER with severe terror, non ending after several hours. I was given a Psych evaluation in a locked unit, and the doctor said I was one of the worst cases he has ever seen in 25 years of medicine.
ok now ive had many of the symtoms you all have listed, and i do suffer with panick attacks and agoraphobia and was wonderind if any of you with blurred vision have ever experienced it in one eye?? i get like a tightness or numb feeling around my eye and have experienced blurred vision in that eye, ive had the tight or numb feeling before just not sure about the blurred vision so if any of you know what im talking about i love to see that im not the only one!!!
you're not alone it happens to me all the time especially durring a panic episode. Durring really severe attacks my eyes even go completely black and I have to be dragged out of wherever I happen to be at the time. So I just quit going anywhere. I've tried everything from hypnonsis, to forcing myself to go into public places, to every pill under the sun and absolutely nothing has worked for me. I am currently on celexa welbutrin xl and just switched from xanax to klonopin. xanax just calmed me down a bit I still wasnt able to function normally on it and still couldnt step foot into a public place w/o having a panic attack, in some cases it actually made my panic worse because I feel disoriented anyways and xanax just adds to that. Ive been on klonopin 1 day now and Im not doing so good, I took .5 last night and I started to feel really anxious around 9 this morning so I took .25 and it messed me up so bad I almost had to leave work. I decided to just try and get through it and now 1:45 it has worn off a bit. I feel mellow but the panic just constantly lingers with me. I have also started therapy which also triggers my full blown panic attacks. I am at my wits end I cant live like this I dont know what to do or how to get control of my body and mind back. if anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it
I have read all of your posts and I have most and or all of your symptoms which I don't have time to list now (will later, work ending soon) but I there are a few symptoms that I've experienced that I haven't yet read here........for example............(1.) arm paralysis (both arms). They're either completely movable yet numb without feeling or unmovable, (2.) freezing cold electrical shocking sensations in my left arm, (3.) mild to severe arm tremors, (4.) head and jaw numbness, (5.) I've lost my sence of carbonation in sodas, (6.) freezing icicle finger tips -look like I'd been dead for 6hrs or so, etc.
I've had every test known to man and they've all come back normal. My PCP, Cardio, Neuro etc all shrug off to anxiety but none can explain the loss of my arms which lead me to believe that this is not an anxiety/panic disorder. Most of my symptoms point to strokes or TIA's (mini strokes) but by the time I reach the ER the symptoms subside. I'm not saying saying that TIA's are the problem but I certainly have 98% of the symptoms and they're almost imposible to diagnose. High BP too.
I have PCOS. I believe that is the underlying cause for all of these problems. My hormones are greatly out of balance and I am producing WAY too much male testosterone and it's messing with my whole system. I think the answer lies with my Hormone Specialist only. I think if she can figure out how to get my hormones back in balance then everything else will correct itself and fall back into place.
sounds as though lots of test beeing done, none of us are dying or about to die. we all MUST keep beliveing that these are only symptom SYMPTOMS of our anxeties, i feel like im going to die every night with my nightmares and very bad chest pains(oh my poor wife) but i havent yet and this is been going on for 6 months or more. im writing this to help myself and anybody else who reads it. the more we want to get better and expect things to get back to normal the worse things will get if we put to much pressure on ourselves. we have anxiety and thats that worring more and googling more and stressing more well leads to more anxiety oh yer and if we do die cant be much worse than what some of us are going through anyway.all im trying to say is lets give ourselves a break we are all normal , i know its easyer said than done but lets keep on saying it to ourselves. sorry about the spelling errors im a builder not a writer, hope everyone feels better soon and hang tough
The other night I had an episode where part of my vision was blacked out in one eye for about a minute or less. My PCP thinks it was probably a TIA, so now I've been living in a state of constant terror, afraid I'll have a stroke any minute, even afraid to go to sleep. I'll be having an echocardiogram and a carotid duplex, plus bloodwork. Terrified of the results and have been setting up "worst case" scenarios.
PCP (says it's anxiety except for the possible TIA)
Rehabilitation Specialist (for the tingling in feet, said I probably have some muscle imbalance and sent me for physical therapy, waste of time and money)
Psychologist (says it's anxiety, but he was nuts and a predator)
Orthopedic Surgeon (said the tingling was caused by a tiny bit of arthritis in spine - nuts to that, it's caused by stress)
A doctor in Switzerland (Total stress)
Urologist (did not care about stress levels, just told me I had a kidney stone that he would "watch" - this stressed me, of course, because I'm terrified of medical things, but it's nothing compared to a possible TIA)
Physical Therapist (panic)
Medications: Valium 10 mg. once or twice a day, Inderal 20 mg. once or twice a day, Prilosec for GERD (works wonders for me), all the vitamins listed above, a daily baby aspirin because of the possible TIA, Neurontin for the tingling feet, Paxil 20 mg. (I took it once before and it worked wonders, but this time, it seems to be making me worse, then I'm terrified about the possible TIA, not much could help but anesthesia)
I hope we all feel better. Good luck to all of us.
flashes in my eye sight
sense that things are moving around me when the are still(like i catch something moving out of the corner of my eye)
scared that i may hallucinate
feelin of panic
scared i am going crazy
feeling thta at any moment i am gonna loose touch with reality.
scary disturbing strange thoughts that make no sense
feeling of doom
You have all the symptoms I have, especially the feet, does it feel weird when you get out of bed and put them on the floor, like all the nerves are on edge? Well, after I lost a baby I was found to have a low store of b12 and I was put on injections, now I have had anxiety for 20 years and it could be realted to this b12 problem , perhaps I've always had it and only just found it because a lck of b12 can cause tingling in feet, anxiety, blurry vision etc... I also have been waking up with one eye blurred only for 5 minutes at the most but my doc thinks it's due to the migraines I suffer from. Did the doc tell you your b12 score? If it's under 200, you may need injections because b12 is no good in tablet form if you have low b12 because it can't be absorbed. Maybe think about properly ruling that out!
Thanks for your message, mddie. No, my doctor didn't tell me my B-12 score, but I'll certainly ask and if it's low, I'll ask for injections, which I'll sure he'll give me. I've been taking B-12 tablets, but didn't know I couldn't absorb it. I read that Prilosec, which I take, inhibits B-12 absorption. Terrible! The package insert says nothing about that. And I know I'm anemic, but I think I need B-12 to absorb the iron. I know I don't eat many foods that contain B-12.
Yes, my feet do feel like all the nerves are on edge. I know this is anxiety related. When I wake up, I'm usually asleep one minute, then awake the next, but if I wake up slowly (like a relaxed person), I realize my feet aren't tingling, but then the tingling and pulse pounding in them starts and just gets stronger and stronger. Still, I think a B-12 deficiency has something to do with the whole thing and I'll certainly ask for injections.
If I go out somewhere and manage to relax (not much chance of that but it has happened), my feet feel fine. They also feel fine when I exercise or am in a hot bath, but I've been told my circulation is fine so I think this is due to the movement or hot water relaxing the nerves.
Thank you for your message. I appreciate it. I hope you feel better. I hope we all feel better.
I am sooo glad i came across this post. Im not going to even list all my things because every single one of them have been in every single one of your all's posts lol
The main one that i have the most trouble dealing with and just accepting that its anxiety (some one else had the same thought as me) is because of the heart palitations. ESPECIALLY since they come when im not even having any attacks or stessed situations. Along with the palpitations and 'pounding' heart..i get this one that almost scares me more than those, its where my heart bearly feels like its beating at all...almost like its just a really weak gush. and that will always sent me into to an attack. Does anyone else get that one too?
My Holter monitor and ECCO came back normal but im finding it hard to belive that there is nothing wrong with my heart.
This ones kinda funny, i just started getting this one last month, cant even remember what my doctor called it...but its when you think you start to panic you cant do something physical and then you mind actually makes it not be able to do it because youve convinced your self you cant.. ex...mine: one day out of the blue i started to think i couldnt swallow, and i started to panic, but because i was so terrified i couldnt swallow i was actually physically not able to do it...so i did the only thing i could to prove me wrong...I grabbed a water bottle and just started chugging..forcing my body to just react like it was supposed to. it was seriously one of the scariest things ever at the time though.

Happy to know, I am not alone in these symptoms.
My question is, is it the medicine or the anxiety that causes all these symptoms?
I am taking Xanax .5; originally 4x per day. Now taking .25 2 x per day. Symptoms worse than ever. Could it be the withdrawal from Xanax or is it the return of anxiety because of the reduction in Xanax.
Hopefully this helps all of you as i seem to have a new symptom not listed here...
1. GERD ( gastro-oesophugul reflux disease) where your stomach acid rushes up into the
oesophugus and burns the lining. Can cause (globus) sensation which is the something caught feeling. To relieve this i take Nexium 20mg x 2 a day.
I seem to have anxiety periods:
2. Obsession of breathing. Sometimes tight and constricted, light and to shallow, to hard to gt a full breathe.. A desire to use an asthma puffer but never usually works much.
4. Frightened at symptoms
5. Needing to escape social situations, percieved escape if threatened.
6. Avoiding friends, scared they will see changes.
7. Acid washing into the throat, makes it itchy, feels like something is stuck
8. Needing to grab onto something if out in public and frightened.
Please help - does anyone ever head weird head feelings - like a zap or jolt that feels electric like? I am freaking out - you don't think it is a brain tumor or epilepsy??? Please help - do you think it could be from anxiety???
Hello Myeboys. I get what feels like electrical shocks in my head when my anxiety is bad. Usually happens a night when I move suddenly turning my head. I have had this symptom for many years. I have told my Dr and he said it sounded like some weird muscle contractions involving my eyes. It is kind of freaky. But I have gotten used to them. Sometimes they don't even happen at all. I hope this helps
i dont know but i always get this crackiling in my neck when i turn it at times been to doctors been in psy hosp. been to the best heart hosp in the country Debora and everyone says sorry its anxiety i have come up with the conclusion that doctors dont know. anxiety is more like a phenomenom than a sickness to me beacuse lots of people have it but cant truly be explained .it scares me it upsets me it makes me feel bad but if i can or anyone can look past those feeling i also feel special like maybe it is something un explainable and weird maybe its having to much knowledge to much understanding to much belief we use more of our brain witch causes us to have these feeling but if harnesed correctly imagine what you can do togeher we all can get through this and as long as you think like that nothing is impossibe
Pain in neck, shoulders, chest, back, hips, and calves, panic/anxiety attacks, floaters in vision, eye pain, joint pain, jaw pain, IBS, cold fingers/toes. Sometimes the pain is muscular type pain, sometimes it presents as burning. Calves get real tight particularly when I'm under stress or worrying. Does anyone else get this tightness in calves.
3 EMG/NCV, 2 brain MRIs, c-spine t-spine and l-spine MRIs, somatosensory evoked potentials, blood tests for Lyme, thyroid, diabetes, inflammation and things I've never heard of.
Been to neurologists (3), an infectious disease specialist, a rheumatologist, orthopedist, primary care. Test results all normal.
On top of these other symptoms I'm about to list, I also seem to become obsessed, absolutely obsessed, with one part of my body for a while and think something is happening with it, and then I will move on to another part. First it was a fear of choking, then not being able to breathe, then heart stopping, then losing control, then got suicidal, then scared of falling asleep while driving/tire will blow out, then people would break into the apartment, then ghosts (even though there weren't any), then fainting, then going crazy, then fainting, going crazy, fainting again, heart attacks, a skipped heart beat would kill me, then back on my throat again. All of this has been within the past 4 years. Below are the symptoms I have experienced:
feeling as if about to die, can't catch my breath, blotches on skin, heart skipping beats, chest pains, feeling light headed or faint, muscle twitches, feelings of surroundings being unreal or too real, out of body experiences, tachycardia (very high heart rate), irritable, anxious, feeling as though I have just been running and lungs are burning, vivid images of terrible things happening to me, completely irrational fears (example:climbing up a steep hill), feeling my heart beat and or pound, floaters in vision, flashes of light and spots of light in my vision, ears popping/ringing, a fizzle noise from my throat, feeling like there is something in my throat, very tense neck muscles, jaw hurts from biting down so hard, diarrhea, shakiness, need to run out of area and sometimes to the ER, needing constant reassurance I'm not about to die, a weird neck twitch/spasm that's close to my carotid artery, tightness in calves, tingling in hands and feet, feeling like my neck is getting too stiff, troubles falling asleep, waking up scared in the middle of the night, etc.
I have had numerous EKGs done, holter monitor, event monitor, I can't even count how many blood tests but some were for anemia, thyroid, cancer, blood clot, etc. Also have had numerous x rays, two ct scans, gas test from the artery (that hurts a ton), tested for indigestion for the chest pain (negative), and I'm sure others. what has come back is sinus tachycardia (regular fast heart beat), sinus arrythmia (very common), pacs and pvcs (extra beats that feel like skipped beats and everyone has them, some are just more sensitive to it than others), and panic disorder! yeah! lol
I also have asthma, but not sure because no one ever actually tested me yet, so I have a breathing function test to do and am getting a skin allergy test soon.
Another thing to add to those people who think that palpatations and such is what causes the anxiety and not the other way around. Pay attention to how you are breathing...you should only be using your stomach muslces to breathe. When we get tense, we start to breathe with our chest (upper lungs) and essentially making ourselves hyperventilate and not even realizing it...then we get the physical symptoms, and then we get even more scared and it turns into a vicious cycle.
hope this helps...great idea for this thread by the way!

Currently seeing a naturopathy doctor who has me on supplements for neurotransmitter imbalance with no results yet. Been seeing this doctor since 9/07.
Honestly, I think you need a benzodiazepine or an SSRI or even a tricyclic to take on a daily basis. I know, I hate to take medication, too, but with all those symptoms, your quality of life has really fallen and you need something to help you feel more "normal." You need something to let you enjoy life more. I'm a big believer in herbs and vitamins and minerals (I take a lot of supplements every day), but you need something stronger, at least for the time being.
You have a lot of the same symptoms as I do....
I don't really get attacks of anxiety, but, for example I will wake up with a pain in my neck and my whole day will be set off by this symptom and worrying about it. It seems like more symptoms occur throughout the day at random. I also have more concerning symptoms to me such as constant ringing in ears, flashing lights and colored "electric like" spots in my vision, head pressure when bending down, swollen tongue feeling, lump in throat, and chest pain. You say that you have had all the tests done (MRI, ECG's CT's) so I hope you can rest assured.
I have seen my primary physician, neurologist, and eye doctor but I have NOT had any tests done. I hope to have these tests soon and hope to be as lucky as you. Take care
I have an anxiety disorder, and chronic headaches. They put me on Effexor XR for the anxiety and now I'm getting worse. These are my symptoms:
Blue finger nails
Cold toes and hands
tinging in my face and hands
clumsy and shakiness
Violent shaking (in my organs and extremities)
Blood test postitive for mono, and urine test clean (ok they didn't find anything unusual.) They are testing for thyroid right now, and I am now taking vitamins. My mother has something wrong with her thyroid so they think my thyroid test will be the same diagnosis as hers. Also, my sister had anemia 2 years ago so that's why I'm taking vitamins.
I cannot afford to be sick like this, and since my spleen is sensitive because I have mono, I have to cut back on doing stuff. I haven't been doing taking it easy and it's causing me a lot of pain. It now it hurts more to walk around and I have to be careful how fast I go. I don't know what to do. My sister is the only one who could possibly do this stuff for me but she has depression and now is at the edge of the cliff.
We are seeing a therapist but no one else will take us because we're underage.
And I thought it was only me. I have been having all sorts of problems. Like some of you I find it hard to believe that these are actually caused from anxiety. My biggest problem is the physical symptoms. Where do they come from? What causes them? I am tired of the poking and prodding yet I want answers as to what is wrong with me as it is sooo very physical.
Thanks for posting all of these symptoms. It would be nice to also know what meds everyone is on and if they are helping. I have a really hard time taking meds. My dr. prescribes them and I stare at them on the counter getting myself all worked up about taking them because of the side effects and then I end up throwing them in the cupboard and walking away just to relieve that part of the stress.
I was on Lorezapam for a while but got myself really worked up about getting dependent on them so I weaned myself off.
Lump in throat that won't quit or go away
Having a really hard time taking a good breath
No concentration skills
Funky pain in my body seems to always be somewhere else
Tingling in arms and legs
Bowel problems changes daily
Blurry, throbbing right eye
Weight loss... 30 lbs in 6 months
Tacycardia up to 180 4 x
Dr.s and tests Wow so many to list
Pain dr. for injections in shoulder blade
now seeing a Endo for hypothyroid
MRI on shoulder blade for chronic pain there
Carpel tunnel surgery
Ulnar nerve surgery
Cathedar to look at heart
Holter monitor 2 x for a week
Holter monitor 30 day
CT scans of Chest, lower area and brain
Blood tests for every imaginable disease
Thanks for this, it helps to know there are other people out there having the same problems. I am going through testing for thyroid now as I have Hasimotos and swear my problems are stemming from that, not anxiety. Hmmmm could it truly be anxiety and depression? Still not convinced. Dawn
I have started having similar symptoms just within the past few months, they seem to come and go- even when I don't feel particularly stressed or anxious, but as soon as there is any hint of them- they seem to rapidly progress until I get to a point where I am too tired to care. I used to work out all the time and loved being active and living life- within months I have become a hermit.
Tense throat, always trying to swallow something that never seems to go down
Dizziness (This is and the one above seem to be the most consistent)
Pressure in head, fuzziness, dizzying headaches
Tension at top of neck, shoulders
Weak knees, lack of balance
Inability to focus
Depression and worry
Not necessarily fatigue, but lack of desire to be active
Funny ear sensations, cloudy hearing
Digestive issues including gas and diarrhea
Red blotches or spots on skin that disappear as quickly as they appear (NOT rash-like, itchy or burning)
I've had blood tests for kidney, liver, thyroid, glucose levels, blood cell counts, stool samples galore for bacterias and parasites, STD tests, gluten intolerance test- all have been normal and negative.
I currently take amitryptaline 10 mg for TMJ- but it doesn't seem to do much good when these week-months long episodes happen.
Does anyone feel like they have a certain issue or emotional trigger that results in these types of feelings?
I figured I would bring this list back to life since I just came across it. I recently found out I do in fact suffer from anxiety, but not on a major scale. However, when it creeps up on me like now it's not a picnic. Here are my symptons...
Sweaty Palms and Feet
Feels like I have issues breathing at times
Dry Mouth (Top of my mouth)
Feels like I need to constantly clear my throar
Racing feelings in my hands
Loss of Apetite
Feel out of body - like an unreal experience
WORRIED about different things
FEAR that all these items listed above are life threatening
Some of these lasted for 2 weeks, but knowing this is anxiety it helps me deal with it a lot better since I now know am healthy.
I went to the ER and had the following tests done to determine I was 100% healthy and it was anxiety.
Lots of Blood Work
Oxygen Level Taken
Blood Temperature Taken
Heart Rate Checked
I was prescribed axniety medicine for this, but about two days after the ER visit I felt 100% normal so I never took a single pill. I just had a root canal done and had to taken an antibiotic that had a black box warning on it and it freaked me out because I read horror stories about it. I believe I triggered my anxiety due to this now.
-neck spasms, tightness, tender spots
-low back pain
-fear of dying
-fear of stoke
-fear of aneurysm
-fear of cancer
-CT scan head - clear
-neck X-rays - clear but chiro says i have straighten up upper cervical )
-CBC blood test - negative
-Mono blood test - negative
-Other blood tests - negative
-Chiropractors tests ( heat test, spinal and muscle tensions, stress test ) results were confirming my pains in the neck and low back
Out of body type feeling -- fuzzy brain
Indegestion (Lots of Burping, IBS)
Constant worry about health problems that I may have. I spend at least 30min a day googling my newest symptom. (Which cannot help)
Unfortunately for me the dizzy feeling is a trigger for panic for me now.
During an attack:
HOT and sweaty, but feel colder to touch
Going to the bathroom constantly
Have to always be moving something (jiggling foot, tapping fingers ect)
Chest Pain on and off
Pain in left arm
Tingling feet/ hands
Constant worry that my heart is just going to give out and stop
I get very very quite and "in myself". Husband can always tell when I am having trouble.
I have PCOS and I know that my horomones are all out of wack, but no Dr. has been able to help me fix my imbalance. Hormonal BC makes me WORSE. Had surgery to remove a 2 dermoid cysts in my ovaries and that actually helped for a couple months, now I am worse than ever.
I hate going anywhere but work or home, and if I know that I have to go somewhere I get worked up about it weeks in advance. I still make myself go because I am determined not to let this thing beat me, but I always end up having a panic attack and feeling miserable the entire time.
I am taking .5mg of Xanax once a day, but I really want to get off of it and onto something less addictive. I have only been on this for about 3 months. I also add .5mg or 1mg if I am having a really bad attack and it will usually help, just takes an hour or so before I have calmed down a bit. Never completely comfortable until I am home, and even then I am still stressing.
Multiple blood tests - high cholesterol & high testosterone, both likely caused by PCOS. Everything else normal.
EKG - normal (slightly fast, but since I was nervous as hell was ruled normal)
Blood pressure normal
As with everyone else, the physical symptoms are driving me crazy. I just want to feel normal again. I haven't felt normal since I was 22 and I am 26 now. 4 years is a long time to feel like you are slowly losing your mind.
My husband and I really want to have kids soon but I don't want to have them when I am having these attacks almost daily. I just don't know if I could handle it. Anyone have experience being pregnant/having little ones while dealing with this?
Yeah same... came across this and so thought id put mine down to...

I had been diagnosed with acute depression and anxiety and was prescribed Xanax, but it caused me to hallucinate, have difficulties sleeping, and left me always feeling numb, cloudy and disconnected. I took myself off of it soon after starting and began to help myself heal mentally.
I'm 22 and have had anxiety for about a year following the cardiac arrest/collapse of my dad that left him with long-term dementia and inability to care for himself. I've largely accepted that I have an anxiety disorder associated with a fear of dying suddenly (or having a chronic illness), but am determined to get rid of it completely. Sometimes my mind reverts to panicking about dying and a panic attack episode will come on. I know the sources of my attacks and have to work hard to rationally remove them from my fears. I've found that if I immediately take control of my train of thought during the episode, I can talk myself out of it and the symptoms will reside. But the physiological response is still overwhelming sometimes, so it's a long journey to overcome my fears and anxiety and I know that only I can let go of the fears that spark them.

Hi when I was 14 I had a major panic attack meaning I went to the hospital by ambulance lol ***** huh, anyways doc prescribed me meds tiny pills not sure what there called, I took them a few times and didn't take them after that. I'm 26 and never had one since those awful months back in 98 ughhh. It was bad everyone thought I was doing it on purpose including my Dr I felt everyone was against me including my parents I felt like running away almost at some points. Anyways it was mid Feb 1998 was when I had my first Panic attack and for the next about 4 to 5 months I battled it mentally. It was my 8th grade year and I had to do home school because of it, but I wanted to beat it and with positive thinking and continuing on with my life I was ready start Freshman year and I even took a trip to Thailand in October of that year! I would never have thought I could go back when I was having those panic attacks. Anyways I did NOT take meds for the exception of a few pills to see how I felt, I just remember having a whole bunch of pills left that I tossed away. Now here I am 26 and living life and yes I still remember how it feels and I know it's possible to beat it, just continue your life one step at a time leave your worries behind. Geeez I must be bored look at all I typed lol I just really care about others and how they feel so hopefully this can help.

Fear of Cancer
Fear of Dying
feeling sick in a.m.
EBT full body scan $800- Nice, huh?
numerous blood tests
Internal Pelvic Ultra-sound
Unfortunately, I recently had a real medical problem. I have a blood clot in my right arm. Now, I'm a wreck worrying
as to why this happened. I have this horrible feeling constantly, that I have an undetected illness. aka. cancer. So far all blood tests have been normal. But the constant worry has brought with it many of symptoms above. I feel awful all the time and am convinced I'm going to die!!!
I have constant off balance / dizziness, back of head pain with burning sensation, weak legs, feeling like I'm in a dream, tremors... etc. But lately for the last couple of months I have had the dizziness 24/7. I feel like I am going crazy!!!
Throbbing headache on one side of head
Gnawing of stomach
Lack of appetite
Feeling 'out of place' or 'not right'
Thinking I'm dying
Shortness of breath
Tests I've Had Done:
Colonoscopy (2) (my intestines were twisted and they could not see into my colon the 2nd time)
Biopsy of stomach lining (found gastritis)
Numerous blood tests
Dr.'s that think it's anxiety:
None.. they just want my money.
I have all the symptoms more or less as you all have. I have really bad butterflies and my head feels ... well, like tight, like a swarm of sand or bees around it... just uncomfortable... take ativan feel alright. had this over a year ago, I had kidney cancer, thought that was the cause, but it's coming back... wonder if beta Blocker is causing it..?? Maybe my body doesn't like them anymore... seems like I got this way because I was losing weight and getting good exercise... I ate burger king and junk food seems like it went away, but I got fat and unhealthy.... what's up with this??
was sleeping great but past couple days cannot sleep, get to REM stage and wham! wake up with butterflies, tremors happen while I am trying to sleep, feel weak and shakey,,,, while awake feel better... it's a horror movie that's for sure!!
Ativan is my only friend for emergencies.....
Worry of getting or having a terrible disease (MS, Lupus, ALS, Parkinson's, Skin Cancer, etc)
Various twitching and spasms (scariest of all a shaky index finger when lifted)
Muscle Aches, stiffness
interminent tingling in extremities

Hi guys. This forum has helped me so much. I have suffered from anxiety since I was a child, but my I am now experiencing my 3rd big episode. The first one was when I moved away to college. This one lasted for 4 years and I had trouble breathing. I eventually learned to live with it. The second episode was after my first baby was born (lasted for about a year) and the third after my second baby was born...this is now more than 2 years of symptoms. This time around the "wealth" of symptoms has freaked me out. I don't know what triggers my anxiety, but I sure know what keeps it going: my obssesive hypocondria. So here is my list of symptoms:
can't catch my breath
have to take deep breaths and can't so I panick
shortness of breath
pain and pressure on my face to the point that I can't stand at all
pressure on top of my head
dizzines (this lasted over 6 months almost 24/7)
blurry vision (had a hard time even driving)
tingling in hands, arms, feet, legs, lowe back
vibrations in feet
crawley feeling all over the body like ants would be on me
tingling on face
numbness feeling in feet, hands and the back of my legs (althoguh they were not actually numb)
arms or one or more fingers falling asleep at night
sensation that feet or hands are swollen but they are not
throbing in hands
pain in arms, hands, dingers, finger tips (especially right arm)
pain in shoulders
pain in middle/upper back (this one is new now and still dealing with it)
crazy twiching all over my body
feeling of impeding doom
fear something was wrong with me (brain tumour, MS, ALS, leukemia, cancer)
shaking of legs when in bed
palpitations (for months and while pregnant...was not fun)
physical therapy (did not work)
MRI of brain and C spine
blood work: cbc, B12, thyroid, diabetes, RA, bone cancer, lupus and many others
T spine x-ray
I am on Xanax as needed. It is the only pill that helps my pain. No NSAID's do the trick. Now that I have had all these tests done I will chill and take it...again...as anxiety. I got over it before, I will do it again. I was symptom free for over five years...the age difference between my kids.
Almost forgot to mention, I had blood tests also and a brain mri because of complaints of dizziness. I also have ibs and gerd which did not help my symptoms. Oh and chest pains. I have not had anxiety for a while so I had to think about all the tests and symptoms.
-rapid heart rate/palpatations
-muscle twitching all over my body (thats the worst)
-tendon/joint/muscle pain, weakness and stiffness
-vision issues (blurry, big floaters, lights)
-racing and obsessive thoughts
-feeling that i'm going to pass out
-random tingling and numbness
-hypochondria thoughts (feeling of having a disease/am going to die)
SPECITALISTS I HAVE SEEN******
-my primary care physician (several times)
-several ER drs.
-retinal specialist dr
My symptoms started after my dad died at 42 in the middle of the night..I usually get my anxiety attacks at night and I have to have the tv on. they also got worse after I gave birth 2 months ago due to a ding-o-ling doctor...
my bp goes up (I have a machine and i check my bp up to 20 times a day if I'm having an attack)
I feel like I can't escape
sometimes I can feel my heart pounding, this is mainly after I eat
an extensive heart monitor exam done
been to the ER and diagnosed w/ mild depression
I'm on xanax, I don't take it all the time, only when I have an attack, which the attacks have been frequent lately.
I was told to go to mental health for a followup but haven't yet since I'm a new mom, back to work..it's hard w/out my platoon sergeant having a fit because I'm not at work.....glad to know I'm not the only one out there "freaking out"...

This could be a very useful tool, as well as a tremendous source of reassurance for some of our posters, but I think it would be more relevant to our current posters if you started a brand new thread. Dragging one to the surface that is 6 years old, written by posters who are no longer members, is sort of like keeping MH in the dark ages. Put a new spin on it for our members who are active TODAY and I think you will have created a very interesting thread. We just need to let the past go.
I'll look forward to adding my 2 cents worth!

I had a thought to do this as well, but realized it was giving far too much validation internally. Instead, you should focus on problems that ONLY come from anxiety/panic attacks.
Things like "Increasing fear of a heart problem that eventually causes such to seem to manifest." or "Any illness which you can make worse by worrying over it." Or, say, "A heart attack cant be stopped by willpower alone."
But see even those, specific though they may be, are still just validating the concern. That is why I have reduced all of anxiety/panic attacks (the ones that go completely out of control, not the minor situational external cause ones) to a single unifying symptom:
"The Inability To Quantify Reality Correct due to Inability to recognize the analytically disrupted state that being in such an attack brings about, and its mistaken perpetuation as valid during this state."
Hard to tell if you're hearts beating too fast if you're terrified and panicing over a heart problem. Heck I think my hearts slowing when it goes over 100 BPM (during significant panic attacks. I literally will find a way to make myself think that 100 BPM heart rate is a sign that my heart is slowing down/stopping. Because im paniced.)
Oh, I should note that my panic attacks, despite being severe, have never sent me to the ER or anything like that. I study biological sciences, so the only time reading about it bothers me is when its heart related (mitral valve prolapse. doesnt make it hurt, just makes me aware of it.)
