Adding magneium for anxiety

I just wanted to get input from anyone else who is taking magnesium supplements for anxiety/depression. I asked Dr. Gould here on the forum for his input and he suggested, Slow-Mag.

I did research and found the brand, Slow-Mag manufactured by Purdue Products at CVS. It's time-released and you take 2 tablets with a meal. Today was my 1st day - took with breakfast and no stomach upset.

Any input will be great to share with us. Thanks!!

Thanks for that...the dosage in Slo-mag. is way under the minimum daily requirements, so I'm not sure if any damage could occur. And, so far, no diahhrea - just beginning my 2nd day now.

And, thanks for clarifying re: helping with anxiety but not depression. I suffer from both, so I wanted to tackle the anxiety component as I'm currently weaning down from xanax.

When I see my Dr. my OB for my next visit, I'll have him run some blood work to check on this. I also need to keep an eye on my thyroid since it tends to run a bit on the lower side of normal.

Please, if anyone else has other experiences, could you please share with the group??
Thanks!!!

From what I found by "Googling" 'Slo-Mag,' if you do not have a low magnesium level in your body already, taking a supplement of mag, have do more harm than good.  It may actually cause your body to stop making it's own magnesium.  Excess magensium may also cause diahhrea.

If you are low in magnesium, I did read where it is thought to help with anxiety, but did not say anything about depression.  Checking your levels with a doctor's before taking any supplements is always a good idea., beforehand.

Best Wishes,
Heather
