Almost a Panic Attack, what I did not REALIZE.

by silverberg, Jul 04, 2009 09:31PM
I wanted to share, again for you all who don't  know me, I have been panic free since January. Today about a hour ago I started to build up into a Panic, really worked hard to relieve the symptoms (have had indigestion last 4 days. racing thoughts) It was really getting bad, so I did take a 1/2 of a .25mg xanax, but that's OK, have not touched xanax since January, but this was really scaring me, especially with the indigestion, mind kept saying HEART ATTACK!
I used my CBT techniques and they helped but the Panic still started to set in.

OK, with that said what I wanted to share and hopefully will help some of you, My partner was with me here at home as this started, I kept talking to him and the more I talked we realized that even though I have had CBT to use, what I was NOT doing was one of things that USED to lead to Panic Attacks,

I was NOT ADDRESSING SOME ISSUES I HAVE HAD OVER THE LAST 2 WEEKS ( they were small, but I forgot, TWO MANY SMALL ISSUES can built into ONE BIG issue, or as I say a panic Attack)

1) going back to work (after 10 months)
2) I have only applied at 3 places in the last 6 months, I want a Job that I want.
3) found job part time to full time in Dr. office
4) Dr. called me back for 2ND interview yesterday
5) Friend visiting for the week from out of town (even though I have been going out by myself & with my partner to places panic free,  I have never has someone else with me.
6) Me and Randy (working on some issues at this time)
7) waiting to see if I get this job! (how will I react)
8) we live inland and even though San Diego is 15 min away, it really gets HOT inland and gets to me sometimes.
9) taking my out of town guest places, starting to get to me.
10) Anniversary of Randy's mother's passing - which gave us the inheritance we have and a better life.
11) Randy's mothers birthday yesterday

My point is we talked (OK I talked over a hour) and we both noticed, that yes I do have CBT under my belt and is a great tool and yes, stress is apart of everyday LIFE, but  >>>> I WAS NOT ADDRESSING THESE ISSUES AS they came up,  I LOOKED AT THEM AS BEING TRIVIAL (I ACKNOWLEDGED THEM) but that was all!

what I found was that, even the small stuff (people like us) who have Panic disorder, still need to address EVERY ISSUE, regardless of how small, or it can build into ONE BIG PANIC!

my CBT works for these, but I MISTAKENLY thought, these are too small issues, and did not really look at the big picture. well thanks for letting me share.

Thanks for sharing. Glad you got through your rough spot.  Keep looking forward.  It seems that what you are doing is working.
