Well, simply put, the fluvoxamine is an SSRI antidepressant which also has an affinity (the ability) to control anxiety and panic disorder. Taking alprazolam, (Xanax) on top of the fluvoxamine is not recommended as it will increase the central nervous systems depression, which the fluvoxamine is already doing.
I would talk to your prescribing doctor and discuss stopping daily use of the Xanax and use it strictly on a PRN basis. (AS NEEDED)
It will take the fluvoxamine up to 4 weeks to reach therapeutic levels, (that means it will have built up in your body/blood stream and you should begin to notice a change in how you're feeling) so you need to give it time to work. My non-medical opinion is to use the Xanax only if you have a really bad anxiety attack. (Do you even HAVE anxiety? Were you diagnosed with both anxiety AND depression?) You may not even need Xanax at all.
I can't tell you to stop taking any medication, only your doctor can do that, so I advise speaking with him as soon as you can. The medical book did not say you absolutely must NOT take these two meds at the same time, so continue to take your meds as the doctor prescribed until you can talk to him.
And stay off Google! If you have questions about your meds, call your doctor or the chemist. Only Google Elvis Presely songs and the habits of sea turtles.
Peace
