Alprazolam???

I had went to the ER for a bad headache, dizziness, I was feeling weak & shaky.
The doctor prescribed me Amoxicillin & Clavulin (500mg, 125mg) for an ear infection. He said when you have headaches & dizziness that could be an ear infection. I have NO pain in my ears.
Alprazolam (0.5mg - I think)  for anxiety & panic attacks.

I was taking Pantoprazole (40mg) but I stop taking them last week.
I also take gravol (not prescribed)

Should I take the Alprazolam? I'm feeling anxious.
Has anyone taken this before?
I read it has a lot of side effects & I don't want to add to what I already feel.

I also feel weak, lightheaded & tired. I feel like I can't do anything. My eyelids are heavy and my head too. I can't stand long because I feel like I'm going to faint.

Btw, I haven't taken the Alprazolam yet.
Just the Amoxicillin & gravol.

As I assess myself I'm not that very much anxious. I'm just having this tension headache as what my internist told me. Shall I stop this alprazolam? Anyway, I have Ibuprofen for my headache.

I think we're having the same problem now. I was nearly fainting last thursday in the mall. Rushed to the ER in thw evening. Ecg normal and fasting blood sugar normal. I was given alprazolam for anxiety because my headache as the doctor siad, was just brought about my anxiety. I'm still taking may alprazolam now. Half tab in the morning and 1 tab before bedtime. The problem now is i'm feeling groggy after taking the med in the morning. I feel weak and doesn't want to stand for a longer time. Do i need to stop the alprazolam in the morning?

This post is 4 years old, so you might want to make a new one to get more help.   The main question you need to ask yourself is, do you feel anxious?  Do you have irrational fears?  Is it so constant and so severe it impedes your life?  If not, your problem isn't anxiety and your doctor is a quack.  I know that sounds harsh, but to give you an addictive drug you're now taking every day if you're not in fact an anxious person with an anxiety disorder and not just the normal worries of life is malpractice.  Now, if you are a chronically anxious person and it's interfering substantially with your life, taking benzos every day is still not the proper response, as again, this is an addictive drug and is very hard to stop taking once you take it regularly.  Most people take these meds only as needed to avoid this.  Also, if your life isn't severely impeded by anxiety but you have it, the first step is to seek out therapy from a psychologist who specializes in anxiety treatment, not to go right to these very difficult meds.  If you do need them, they aren't going anywhere.  An antidepressant, if it works, works all the time, whereas a benzo only works for a short duration.  Now, some people with persistent anxiety do find relief with benzos, so there are no absolute always or nevers here, but there are guidelines that you learn when you've had this problem for awhile.  So, the headache and the nearly fainting.  So many things can cause this that are physiological -- lack of food that day, slow heart, insufficient hydration, a lack of certain nutrients, lack of sleep, over-exertion, blood sugar problems, thyroid problems, ulcers, I mean, the list is very long.  If this was a one time only thing and it hasn't happened again, then that's just life -- stuff happens.  If it's a recurring problem or was close to a blackout, again, so many possible causes that need to be checked out.  As for the side effects, benzos make you tired.  If you take them long enough, and as I said, if you're really not an anxiety sufferer that's not a good idea to get into that mess, you sometimes get over that and sometimes don't.  Drugs have side effects.  If it makes you weak, that reinforces the idea something physiological is going on that your doctor is not good enough to find or take seriously.  Anyway, if you make a new post, you can fill in the details and others will respond.
