Alternative treatments

I've been suffering with Anxiety since March when I had my big first attack. It came out of nowhere and my co-workers thought that I was having a stroke or heart attack. After trying to figure out why I was getting tingling in my body, and incredible tension in my back and neck (along with some panic symptoms), I had to come to the realization that I've got some form of anxiety that's taken over my body. Frankly, it stinks because I've never had stress take over my body like this. I used to be able to drink a cup of coffee before bed and still sleep fine, which shows how little my body used to react to stress. But, whatever the case, I'm stuck with this now.

My question is in regards to non-traditional forms of treatment. I'm curious what others here have experienced in regards to using chiropractors, acupuncture, and nutritional methods to help with anxiety symptoms. I tried some Lexapro for a short bit and had to quit that as the side effects were just killer. I've got Ativan that I take at a .5mg dose when I need it, but I know I can't take that forever.

Anyone have good experiences with the alternative medicine camp?

My symptoms like yours came out of nowhere.. so I thought. I tried to battle the anxiety demon on my own and finally succumbed to therapy---relaxation therapy!  I did not like the regime of xanax .50 3 x a day. and now like tostressed take .25 mg an an as needed basis... none for the past three months.  Relaxation therapy consists of 25 minutes tapes where you quiet your mind and permit your self to relax. I do them before I go to sleep. the tapes are self affirmations---good peaceful healing thoughts..  Breathing is HUGE... breathe in through nose (expand your stomach) for a count of 4, hold for 4 and breathe out from mouth  for 8... do this 3 times in a row... it works!!!  Yoga and vitamin B - stress complex are two other stress releasers that I do.  Now when I feel a panic attack or anxiety in my body (clenching teeth, leg bobbing, clenched muscles, hair or extremities tingling.. the list is long... ) I smile (tricks your brain and forces endorphines), breathe.. slows the heart rate and say this is stupid, I am fine, nothing to be anxious about... my fight or flight mechanism is out of whack and I need to retrain it!!

Do see a mind, body, spirit healer and you will regain control of 'It".

Peace of mind to you!!

I've gone to the chiro and had adjustments and massages, and I feel better, but I also started taking a natural vitamin and omega 3's. Doing all that together has made me feel a lot better. I am unable to take any antidepressents I have major side effects. Worse then the anxiety. I take xanax .25 as needed. (Maybe 3-4 amonth) Lately less then that. I am really trying to fight this on my own without medication(xanax). I keep myself busy and try to also be more active.
I'll tell you now going to the chiro can be very expensive, even with medical insurance, but I will say getting a massage every week or other week is nice. I would go at night aroung 7:00pm, and then come home and relax watch t.v and fall asleep. It is wonderful. Something to look forward to.

I hope you feel better. Hang in there.
