Am I taking the right medicine

I have been taking Citalopram for about 9 months for anxiety and panic attacks.  I still have a hard time just sitting around, I feel like I have to be busy all the time to keep me from wanting to run or jump up and down.  I feel figity and cannot sit still.  I am on 40 mg. a day.

I have never been on Citalopram before, but I have been on Paxil. It worked great for my anxiety and I found it to be of the more calming meds. I did have weight gain with it though and that's the only reason I quit taking it. Not all people have this side effect of course.

I am trying to do what the dr. tells me, but I still have a lot to do before I can quit the meds.  I hate taking meds but in this case with the anxiety i know I cannot do without.  I plan on talking to a conselor when I get home in April, because I cannot go on like this.

Medication? I am in the same boat so I hope you read this and can somehow relate. Medication. I have been on SO many meds. probably about 20. You name it, I've benn on it. I started taking meds when I was 14, I am 26 now. I just saw my doctor the other day and we still don't know what exactly is wrong with me. Don't know what meds to put me on. 12 years, many meds, I give up on them because I realized, it is now on me to make certain changes. Meds yes they help, but I learned thigns I have to chaange about myself. I have more to tell you but first read this and get back to me. I have stuff to tell you that could help

Yes it is a help.  My Dr. did mention about changing to Paxil if Citalopram does not work.  However we are away for the winter and will not see him until we get back in April.  If things do not get better soon I may have to put in a long distance call to him.  Thanks for the info.

SSRIs like what you are on are often prescribed to help with anxiety.  I have had great success with them and they have helped me, but they are definitely not a 'cure all' in my opinion, but an important tool in helping you confront and deal with it. Are you also in counseling for your anxiety?  What else are you doing to deal with it long term?  I am a big proponent of medications like citolopram, but there is more to it than just medication in my experience with anxiety.  Also, sometimes, doctors will choose to change your medication because we all tend to react differently to them.  Do you think that it has helped?
