Anxiety, Prescribed Diazepam

by DeedsCali23, Mar 26, 2008 05:59AM
Hi All,
After finally working up the courage to go to the doctor she prescribed me Diazepam (2MG) although ive been worried about taking them. Has anybody else had any experiences with this drug they could share.
Im really not coping well at the moment and I am wondering if this will help me.

Thanks

First of all let me commend you for going to the doctor with your concerns.  Diazepam is a benzo which is used to help 'calm' your anxiety.  It is in the same class of meds like xanax, klonopin, ativan, etc.  I have used ativan and klonopin in the past.  I would tend not to worry as long as you follow your doctor's advice.  I also suggest that you go see a mental health care professional (i.e a counselor, psychologist, psychiatrist, etc) to understand why you are feeling anxious.  While there is no magic pill to 'cure' you of this, I look at medication this way.  It is a useful tool to use if combined with talk therapy; with talk therapy comes knowledge of the condition and it can become very manageable and you can in fact thrive with this situation.  Also, this forum is a great help as well!  I suggest you join:)

I was prescribed Valium to help control my anxiety a couple of years ago. I was also given it at the time because I was being taken off Paxil which I didn't tolerate well at all.

Now I seldom use the Valium and when I do it's only at night when I get palpitations. It helps me keep from blowing the palps out of proportion. The thing that helped me the most with learning to cope with having anxiety was talk therapy. Once I started that I didn't needs meds at all.

Good Luck to you.
