If your appt is that far away...maybe you could phone the doc and see if it would be okay to re-start the Lexapro. It will probably depend on how long it's been since you were taking it.
How long have you been taking the Xanax? That is a fairly low dose, even at twice a day. You would still need to be weaned off of it...but I wouldn't get too worried about it if I were you....
If you have recently significantly decreased the Xanax dose, or recently come off the Lexapro, then the tremors could be from that. Are you taking any other kind of medication? (Only answer if you feel comfy sharing of course).
I would give the psychiatrist a call, explain the jittery feeling, and your desire to maybe re-start an SSRI...maybe they can see you sooner, or just advise you to re-start the Lexapro since you still have it. 10 mg is typical starting dose. I actually take 40 mg daily. I started at 20mg, and was jittery for about a week or so.
Hey thanks so much for the info. I wondered if maybe I didnt give the Lexapro a fair shot. It was given to me by my Family Doc who said "Here take this". I didnt even know that I could take the Xanax in comjunction with it etc. The Lexapro made me feel like I was on speed, very inhabitious, and I had terrible insomnia. The dosage was 10. I still have a months supply and I wonder if I should just get back on it. Perhaps I will wait until I see the psych on the 21st. I hate waiting for these Dr appointments. I cant even see my therapist until the 27th(2 weeks) CRAZY!!!
I really now am dependent on the Xanax daily. I take one when I awake and when i go to sleep. 25 dosage...If its a bad day then I take another. It seems to help my thoughts for but, I am fearful of getting addicted. For now I need to just stick with it in order to fucntion. I tried yesterday not to take one and I lasted til about 4pm!!! I never have been able to decided if Xanax is an as needed thing or it can be used dailt. Ive gotten conflicting info on this.
The tremors are really annoying me. I try not to think about them but, they are constant. Not so bad that I cant hold things in my hand or anything like that. More of an overall jittery feeling in my hands. If I hold my hand straight out it shakes. The Xanax help it a bit. But, I wonder if maybe it is due to the Xanax??? Maybe I have something wrong nuerologicaly??? I dont even wanna go there!
Any more thoughts?
Hey there! First, I commend you for tackling your anxiety problem, way to go!
Actually, a lot of people (myself included) experience that "jittery" shaky hands (or even legs, etc) feeling, when they first start an SSRI (like Paxil, Lexapro). It is actually a fairly common side effect. Even an increase in anxiety at first (THAT's real nice, huh? Like a stomach med giving you nausea! LOL). It usually subsides after the first week or so, some sooner, some a little later.
Also, those are symptoms of anxiety itself (which I'm assuming is your case, as you seemed to say you arenot currently on an SSRI, right?) , so sometimes it is difficult to determine where it is all coming from. Try not to focus on it too much if you can, and I bet it will start to improve. SAME thing with the heightened awareness of your pulse. That symptom is annoying as heck, I know...but again, very typical anxiety sensation.
I'm glad you are going to see your doc...discuss all of this with him/her and formulate a plan. You may want to try a different SSRI...I'm not sure how long you took the Lexapro, and what your dosage was...but it is pretty normal for people to give up on those meds before they've really had a chance to start helping. Some people have a rough time handling the increased jitters and anxiety (understandably)...but it almost always improves.
There are many different meds out there....and everyone reacts differently to them...while Lexapro might be a Godsend to one person, it may do nothing for someone else. Also, in my experience...for ME...the med will usually start working after 3-4 weeks, but then I usually require a dosage increase not long after that point. So, in that regard, everyone is different.
Use the Xanax as prescribed when you need it, there is nothing wrong with taking it here and there for your more anxious moments. Especially if the dose is low (like 0.5 mg or less). If you really aren't sure whether you "need" one or not...try to work through the anxiety...if after a while it doesn't improve, then take the Xanax. You've got the right idea that Xanax is best used short term....and usually once the anti-depressant starts doing it's thing....the need for the Xanax will decrease.
Let us know what the doc says and what the "anxiety game plan" is, okay? Hang in there.....
Yeah ive been waking up with tremers and ive been told its because of my anxiety. But i actually think its because of the Paxil because ive had anxiety all my life so why now? ive only been on that med for 3 mounths so i'll tlk to my doc about getting me off of it and see wht happens.Oh and I feel your pain those tremers are a *****!!
i never had that problem only when i drink to much caffine..xanax will make you relaxed were then you can do more things..but to make you speedy never heard of that..good luck too you......james
