Anxiety HelpPlease

Hi there i hope you can help, im a 39 year old male, have been diagnosed with mild depression and anxiety and have been put on a course of Citalopram Hydrabromide, Ive been on them about a week and the symptoms appear to have gotten worse, i keep thinking my partner is possibly having an affair and am keen to know where she has been all day when i get home, its not fair on her as she has done nothing to cause me any concern, I feel most secure when i am at home with her, i cant sleep or eat properly , my partner is very reassuring and loving, but i cant get these ridiculous thoughts out of my head, will this go away with the medication?? any help, advice or support is very welcome.

Thanks

For me, when I started a medication like yours, it did have an 'adjustment period' of a couple of weeks.  SSRIs like the one you are taking can take a good couple of weeks to start to feel the positive effects of the medication.  When I start, stop, or adjust dosage, my anxiety actually increases for a bit and I have few side effects that do go away with time.  I am glad your partner is supportive.  Quite often, it can be really hard on them and they are just as confused and scared as we are.  Have you talked this over with her?  Do you have access to counseling to help you understand your anxiety?  Keep us posted!

You are DEFINITELY not alone in this.  I think that is a big misconception we have when we first experience any form of anxiety when the reality is there are literally millions of people affected by it, which means that there is much hope in getting over this as well.  Do not get too down on yourself...you are confronting and dealing with it, which takes a lot of courage in the first place.
