Anxiety Over Possible STD

Could anyone tell me if I'm losing my mind. 10 weeks ago I had sexual contact with a woman and three days later a white blotch showed up on my upper lip. My first thought was herpes, so I did all the right things which included STD clinic for swabs of the area. (Came back Negative) GP for blood tests for herpes 3 weeks post exposure (Negative) Full battery of STD tests with my dermatologist all came back negative (still waiting for the herpes test 7 weeks post exposure) Everyone has told me this is not herpes but at the same time I've been losing my mind for the last 10 weeks. A couple of days I felt like I was close to a breakdown.....

Over the last 10 weeks I've been spending way to much time in front of the mirror waiting for something to happen. And sure enough  thing have started to happen. Two bumps started to appear close to where my nose meet the fave, along with redness. My cheeks started to dry out also if you look very close it looks like little bug bites and my skin has been itching on and off throughout the day...Its driving me crazy!! In addition I started to feel discomfort in the groin area, also discomfort between scrotum and anus....I have no idea if these could be symptoms of herpes or anxiety. I have talked to three doctors, one being a dermatolgist and no one seems to think this is herpes so maybe I'm hypersensative to everything I've read....All I know is this is really effecting my life and I feel like I'm losing my mind.

I have not experienced anything like this before....Before the encounter I was a totally normal confident male now I feel beaten down.....

Does this sound like anxiety to anyone......Could  your skin dry out go red  start itching etc.....???

Any input would be greatly appreciated...

Hope your day is going well! ;)

Do you have a natural pharmacy or some place you can go to find out about acidophilus? I think it would be the best course for you at this time. You might want to look at doing a yeast detox diet which basically means you need to cut out anything that contains yeast. I have yet to do this as I am a devote carbs addict and it's in my genetic code!!

I agree with you about the Canadian health care system. My body seems to be rejecting the western medicine route and is taking a more natural way (which is fine with me).

I asked about cold sores because they are a strain of the herpes complex virus. There are two strains of them--HSV 1 & HSV-2. If you look up on the internet, you'll see the different symptoms & types. Again, I don't think you have it, however you might want to be more informed just in case you run into a situation like this again.

I do believe you are right about the conscience run a muck. I've made some very bad decisions and put family at risk which just adds to the stress..... I just want this behind me so I can be a better person.....

Funny thing about you suggesting yeast infection. The lady I was with told me after that she had a yeast infection brought on by antibiotic from a UTI. Also she told me she would get cold sores when she was kid but has not had them since she was in school.
Funny how I was given a list of problems after the fact but when we were discussing each others health she was perfectly fine and had been tested for everything....grrrrrrrrrr

Yes I have red cheeks that do look scaley and yes some discomfort down below but doctors seem to think its impossible, tho I'll push for some answers next time I'm in his office which should be next week.

I believe that white patch is loss of pigment caused by something entering my body. I know it sounds like I'm self diagnosing here but doctors give you no choice it seems. I go to them asking for answers and they have none. I do understand that with infections like Herpes there's no fast answers but when things start to show up don't dismiss them.

Listen to me rant....I'm not only full of anxiety I'm pissed off with the medical system for not listening to me. I work in emergency services I'm not a hypocondriac (However you spell it) I just want answers.....Here in Canada, when you use the medical system they make you wait forever  for results ((Still waiting close to a month for herpes test results, and its a crude antigen test at that) If you request type specific I must pay and I just found out results are in within 48 hr.....Go figure....I going to put this to bed next week, I can't take much more, I even noticed my drinking has increased because of the stress. I'm going to knock that on the head and get back into the gym.....Either way once I get the results from this test at least the stress of waiting will go away...

Sorry about the RANT but it does help........

Sounds to me like you have a common yeast infection. She might have/has it and doesn't realize it so it could have been passed on to you.

Look at the run of things so far--you've had several tests and they've come back negative. Do you get cold sores?

I highly doubt you have herpes; it sounds like an overgrowth of candida (which is something we ALL have). If you were put on any antibiotics over the course of the 10 weeks, then not only did it kill off the bad bacteria, but also the good bacteria (candida) which hangs out and regulates things in our system. Several things can cause it to overgrow (such as steroids, antibiotics, and a poor diet). Try looking up Candida and see if anything resembles what you're going through. You'll see that there is a lot of interaction between the body and Candida so you may recognize symtoms you did not know you had. In the mean time, I would boost your intact of Acidophilus (the good bacteria) and follow a course recommended by your doctor or local health / natural pharmacy store.

Let us know how it turns out!

This just might be a usually very normal moral conscience run amuck. Next time you are looking in the mirror, look into the eyes, not the lips. Are you a spiritual person? maybe, look there. Been there myself.

I always say, especially with health anxiety, "If you look for it, then you will find it."  I bet before you started worrying about your symptoms, these things happened, but you just didn't pay it a second thought because it was not important.  In my experience, normal sensations with our bodies are often catastrophicsized in our mind.  Just keep in touch with your doctors and get the applicable tests that are needed; but believe the results when you get them.  Keep us posted!
