Anxiety and Asthma question

I have had asthma since I was 11 yrs old.. I'm 30 now.  I've also been on advair for quite a long time and most of the time it helps.  Well for the past couple weeks I've been having trouble breathing but I don't think it's related to my asthma - I think it could be anxiety/panic.  The problem is I cant seem to get a full beath in, and I have trouble breathing IN instead of OUT like asthma.  And when I take my inhaler it doesnt really seem to help the problem.  I have been stressed out too because I am having issues with my mother.  Luckily I have a loving husband that is on my side, but right now I feel like I don't have my mother's support and I am probably going to have to confront her about us moving and that's what I am so anxious about.  (I have told her before we are moving and she spazzed out on me ..b awling and saying what a HUGE mistake I am making).  Well I have alway been close to my mother so this has been a very hard situation on me.  Anyway, my chest/lungs have also been sore because of the trouble breathing.  It seems like when I can calm down I DO feel a lot better but sometimes I have a hard time calming down, and I feel so restless and I have a hard time lying down in bed cuz that seems to make it worse.  I am not on any drugs or caffeine either.  So what I am wondering is if this sounds like anxiety, and should I see my allergy/asthma DR about this (cuz it is breathing problem) or see a whole new DR, and what kind of DR would that be?

THANKS!!!!

Problems breathing in, or feeling like you can't inhale fully, sound very much like anxiety to me - or at least what they told me was anxiety when I complained of the same thing!  You should probably ask your allergist to take a look anyway just i case, and maybe have another spirometry test done, but most likely they will refer you back to a GP or possibly a mental health professional to try and curb the anxiety to see if that helps you breath better.

In the meantime when it happens, try to consciously make an effort to calm down and see if it improves your ability to inhale at all... I find that when this happens to me, taking a 'breather' (so to speak) helps expand the airways and allows air to pass through more easily.  I hope you find similar results yourself.  Good luck!
