Anxiety and Birth Control

I have suffered from anxiety for about 6 years, I take Lexapro. I started taking Birth Control less than a month ago and every few days I start feeling edgy, and have a hard time falling asleep. I have also awaken feeling this way too. It doesnt last long. Could this mean my dosage is too high?

I actually dont want to even take the pill. Taking anxiety medication is enough pills for me. Im only 31.

Thanks for your replies. I do not yet have any children, and I would like at least one child by the age of 35. Im taking the BC for menstral regulation, supposedly. Its only my first month. So I rather not take any pills at all. :)

I will see after this first month is over, and talk to my doc about changing or lowering my dose. BTW i have sore boobs, a few pimples, feel fat, weight gain and moody at times.

Ive done pretty well on lexapro.

Thanks again.

I had a similar problem with birth control, I tried it a couple times but each time it made me very uneasy. I'm guessing it's the hormones? Not sure. I used an IUD with no side effects, but if you don't already have a child you need to talk to your doctor about other birth control options.

If you have been on the Lexapro all this time, your body has probably built up a tolerance to it, and it's no longer working for you as it should.  This is typical of these medications, so let your prescribing doctor know this, he/she will most likely switch you to a new medication.  If you don't want to take birth control pills, why not get an IUD...they're just as effective without all the side effects of the pill.  I hope this helps!
