Anxiety and blood pressure

by K2S, Dec 02, 2007 05:59AM
Hello,
I am curious, do you know there is a connection between anxiety and blood pressure? I worry about my blood pressure, it is normal , but sometimes after moments of anxiety and especially panic attacks it seems to be higher - 135/80, 140/80, I have this feeling of pain and little tightness in my head and the back of my neck. Is there anyone there that experiences this, too? I started to worry this may be an early signal for hypertonia.

Oh yes. My blood pressure rises when I am nervous or panicky. I'll take my blood pressure at home and it is normal. If I go to the doctor or take it when I am nervous, forget it. It's always high. Don't wory about hypertension. I have been there done that and it is your anxiety. My doctor said to worry when you are at home and feeling fine and you take your BP and it is always high.
The feeling of the pain and tightness are also signs of tension and anxiety. Have you talked with your doctor about all this? Have you had a physical? Hang in there you will be o.k.

I am also trying to discover if my fast hard heart beats is just a fight or flight response. I am usually able to calm myself down quickly, so that should answer my question?

It is definitely a connection, but finally is all mental, I suggest you to have more distractions and try to go to sleep tired, make some exercise, go out, etc... This is most commonly related with the style of life we're living.

Hope you get well, I've been passing for the same and I know is not easy but it is possible.
