Anxiety and heart beats

by armenh, Dec 11, 2007 08:59PM
I am a 15 year old teen. One thing i have noticed is that I think i have a heart problem so i am always tensing up to hear my heart beat. Now the thing is I have never heard it skip or something. I have had 2 ekg's and an echo done which came back normal. But the weird thing is is trying to listen to your heart beat palpitations? Also sometimes i kind of feel my heart have one strong beat. One other weird thing is that i am constantly burping and yawning to take in more air. And always in class my stomach growls or makes movements. So sometimes if I bend down I feel like my heart is racing so much but im not sure if my heart is or its the stomach making a fuzzy feeling. Could i have mitral valve prolapse like suddenly occur even if i have had these tests done within 6 months. Could it be arrythmia?  Also is there anyone here who has had these symptoms and like was able to beat them, if so how?

Yes i also have one of ur symptoms.  Sometimes i feel my heart skips. or speeds faster for 1-2 seconds then it's back to normal.  I got my heart checked n it came back normal.  Doctors said i have anxiety.

I have many heart symptoms and the racing heart beat, single strong beats, and even extra heart beats have all been attributed to anxiety by my cardio after MANY tests.  I have read that most people have these extra beats but are completely unaware of them, and that people with health anxiety are hyperaware of  their bodies and tend to obcess over anxiety symptoms.  I am still trying to figure out how to cope with my anixety symptoms (after 7 years of this ****) so I have no advice on how to try to ignore your symptoms, just know that you are not alone.  My best advice is if you have been evaluated by your doctors and given a clean bill of health regarding your heart, try to view them more as an annoyance rather than panic over them.  It took me a few years to realize that they weren't going to kill me, and the soon you overcome your fear of them the soon you will feel better.  I hope this helps and that you felt well today!

Exactly what Cori said.  You will soon understand your body and anxiety symptoms.  It's amazing how I have experienced.  Heart palpitations are not life threatening.  They are just uncomfortable.  You will be fine.  If you got tested and they came back normal...blame the anxiety.

I know you aren't old enough, but after i drink, the next day is full of rapid heart beats, heart palpitations, etc.  I hate it but learned not to panic.

It's normal to be concerned and hard to distinguish between anxiety and real problems.  You are learning young.   I hope that everything gets easier for you.  I'm 23 and am content.  I know can be hard.  Hang in there.
