Anxiety help

Hi i'm new to this sight so I will just tell you a little bit about what has happened.

6 months ago I had my very first panic attack, as anybody who has had a panic attack would know, it is the very worst thing ever. This followed shortly after by a full blown anxiety and panic disorder and oh my god it was hell. Apparently I was quite a severe case.

These are some of the symptoms that I had: head pain like somebody was pinching my scalp, neck tension, back ache, jaw ache, ringing in the ears, dead legs, pins and needles, visual disturbences, stomach pain, not being able to stand up as I felt unbalanced like I was going to fall over, racing heart, irregular heart beats, taste of blood in my mouth, pain behind the right eye and many more symptom.

I have managed to rid myself of a lot of symptoms but some still remain. I am at the moment experiencing chronic fatigue, chest pain, back ache and I was wondering if anyone else out there can give me some tips on how to rid myself of this. Also has anyone out there experienced loud noises in there sleep that makes them wake sharply? and I would love to hear some advise from people who irrational have experienced the fear of dying and being alone.

Thanks

Dan

It's so complicated in my head now. My rational thinking knows that this is an anxiety disorder and is learning to live with this illness, but when my anxiety is really high, the irrational part of my head kicks in and I really do feel as though I am going to die.

On the other hand my symptoms are so much better now and instead of having anxiety and panic attacks all day every day I only have it now during the evening.

I'm still very positive about this illness and I know for sure that I will get up one day and it will be gone, it is just going to take a lot of work a long the way.

I have never let this take over my life (although somedays it could very well have). I still work, I actually packed up and moved to New Zealand in January which with everything that was happening to me was very scary, I still go out although I don't drink much anymore and I still go to the gym. This is very important to me as if I stopped doing everything I enjoy then this will take over my life.

As for the med people, well I have met good and bad. My doctor kept telling me to look on the brighter side of life!! but my mental health worker was ace.

I would not touch SSRI again as I had a very bad experience on these and I would advise anybody who is taking these with an anxiety disorder to come off them. I believe that you really need to be in control of your own mind to be able to recover from this and when you are taking this form of medication you are not in control, far from it. I understand that these help relieve the symptoms for a while but what happens when you come off them?. My big concern with this medication is that the main side affect of these drugs either going on them or coming off them is anxiety and I think adding anxiety ontop of anxiety is really bad. I went on them for 4 weeks and they drove me mad. However I have found a natural tablet over here that has really helped and it is called Valerian 2000. It is a sedative that is not addictive and does not cause side affects. I would recommend these to anybody suffering from this.

Sorry that I could not be more positive, but keep in touch.

hello there
I think everyone here has different symptoms from anxiety it's pure living hell at times the fears that we have are so real i've had this for over 10yrs and there are days where i still feel like i'm gonna die but the only difference now is i know i'm not my advice to you is to learn all you can about anxiety i never tried to learn more about it for about the first 6 or 7yrs and it completely ruined my life but when i started to understand it i started living with it and learning to live with it.
this will not go away overnight if ever at all i now can actually function you know go to work, to the mall, to the grocery store ect. but there was a time when i could'nt leave my house and was at the e.r atleast 5xs a week not to mention all the jobs i lost because of anxiety my life was a mess i could'nt even pick my kids up from school.
If i would have known how much it would have helped me just learning about anxiety back then i probably could have made things easier on myself so stay on this site with us and read as much as you can it will help you understand things your feeling or may feel later on good luck to you and best wishes      bye

Everything you are describing goes right along with panic and anxiety.  I suffered from my first panic attack 3 years ago which hit me out of the blue.  Before that I was active, confident, loved life, etc.  At first I thought I was having a heart attack and the docs could not convince me this was all in the head.

I still have some health anxiety but what really put me back on track was at first trusting the medical doctors; it is okay to have concerns about symptoms, but once things are ruled out I learned to trust them.  Most importantly, I went and talked a psychologist about this cycle of thinking. I also went on an SSRI, which at first I was EXTREMELY against.  Combined, these two really did wonders in getting out of this cycle.  By learning the way I thought, it empowered me to take control and be my 'old self' again.  I still have a fear of death and have that 'what if?' thinking, but I have continued to talk to someone about it and it really is very manageable.  So, confronting the problem head on is probably the best advice I could give.  Keep us posted!
