Anxiety or something else?

by scrguy6, Dec 03, 2006 12:00AM
Can someone please help?  The past month I went through an STD scare, I had all the symtpoms and signs of one but all tests were negative.  Through all of this I was severly stressed and scared that I had something.  Through all of this I was really weak and tired all of the time.  Lately my left arm is very weak and just just seems to get tired very easily.  I have difficulty twisting my arm, and sometimes it's hard to hold certain things.  I also had some numbness in that arm as well.  I'm worried that I could have MS or ALS?  In fact, all I do is reasearch information to try and figure out what is wrong with me.  Also, whenever I workout I get fatigued very easily and get dizzy as well.  I'm also in really good shape, so it shouldn't be due to being out of shape.  Can someone please help me out here, is it stress and anxiety or is it MS or AL or some other disease?

Well, no one here can diagnose you.  You've mentioned that you had std tests that were all negative, but maybe talk to your doc and get a thorough physical to rule out MS or ALS.  Also, having fatigue is not a defining symptom of MS or ALS to my knowledge.  If all tests are negative, then yes...it's anxiety.  Anxiety can cause several symptoms.  In my practice daily, I talk with people that have very real physical symptoms, but it's all caused by anxiety.  Have you tried different relaxation techniques...your local bookstore or the internet can offer several resources for anxiety...deep breathing is something that seems to help people quite a bit.  Also, yoga or something like that can also help out alot.  It's important that everyone have a way to relax...everyone has some anxiety at some times.  What I like to do after a very stressful day is soak in a tub with the lights out and light a couple of candles.  I take that time to gather my thoughts and try to focus on myself and the sensations around me.  It's a place where anything bad or stressful that may have happened that day has no place.  It's amazing, when i'm finished with my bath I feel as If i got an 8 hr. sleep and i'm totally relaxed and ready for my day tomorrow.  Try it...or something like it, you may be surprised to find that some of your symptoms diminsh.

When you are anxious, your adrenals are basically working overtime because you are so stressed and you can get adrenal fatigue. Symptoms of adrenal fatigue include: weakness & fatigue.

To treat adrenal fatigue, you have to treat the cause (anxiety) or use an herbal remedy called "Licorice Root" --- of course before you try anything new, ask your physician. You can google "licorice root" and "adrenal fatigue" and read up on its effectiveness and research.

After a stressful time -- you may have triggered breathing pattern disorders.
Check out - www.breathingworks.com

But make sure you talk to your doc. about your symptoms

Hi Louise,

I believe links aren't allowed in this website. I did the same thing once and the managers' deleted ALL of my posts and sent me a warning e-mail.

I thought I would warn you before the same thing happens to you. You may want to check the rules again, but what I was told is that you can tell people to google certain things. So that is what I've been doing instead.  ;^)

hi scrguy6
Anxiety works in mysterious ways one of them is
being fatigued . I know this cause I am also going through
same stuff ( an STD scare )
I at too exhausted , and I am in pretty good shape too..
I explode very easily too .
As far as I know all you can do is just wait until you will feel better. It will take time. Medicines for stress and anxiety are messing too much with your chemistry so I wouldn’t recommend them unless you are in really bad , horrible shape .
I will prey for you this holiday so perhaps you will feel better
Good Luck
