I go for days feels moderately anxious and then BOOM!!! I stay in bed for a couple of days at a time with my stomach shaking so bad and just feeling miserable. My doctor just raised (yesterday) my Paxil to 37.5. Also in the mornings 99% of the time I have dry heaves. Usually I feel moderately better after eating something easy to digest. Today I am still drying heaving and bile is coming up. Is this dangerous?
I don't know what dose you were on before or for how long, but it sounds like it wasn't enough if you still had days when you stayed in bed. It can take up to 4 weeks for Paxil to reach therapeutic levels in your blood stream.........is it possible you've just not given it enough time to begin to work? Your doctor has now put you on a dose that is about the mid-range for Paxil, but this increased dose will also take approximately 4 weeks to reach therapeutic levels. One of the things those of us with depression must learn is patience. We didn't become depressed overnight and it won't begin to get better overnight, either.
Antidepressants work differently for each of us and part of that is due to which age group we belong to. Those of us of a certain "mature" group often need less medication but more time for the effects to be felt.
Did you have the dry heaves before you began treatment? If not, then this is something your doctor needs to know about as soon as possible, especially if it is producing regurgitation of bile.
In my humble and non-medical opinion, I think it would be best to meet with your doctor again and discuss these issues. Perhaps Paxil is not the AD for you or perhaps you just need to give it more time. This is something you and your doctor must decide together.
Paxil can be fairly tough on the GI tract for some people and you may just need to add an antacid..........but you MUST check with your doctor before doing any self-medication. Some antacids are contraindicated with certain meds.
As to your question if coughing up bile is dangerous, I am not qualified to answer that.
I urge you to see your doctor.
