Anyone else have recurring deja vu?

I am just wondering if anyone else with anxiety also experiences frequent episodes of deja vu.  I have noticed that when my anxiety/stress levels are high I experience a lot of deja vu episodes too.  I googled deja vu and it says that it is a symptom of anxiety.  I have experienced deja vu for years, but lately I have been having a lot of stress.  Anyone else out there like me?

Does anyone else get sick to their stomach or light headed when these episodes occur?  I actually passed out in the shower once when I had one of these episodes. Seem to come and go some days happening multiple time then other days not at all.  I take Paxil for my anxiety could it be breakthrough panic attacks?

This is an old thread -- you might want to start a new one to get more response.  Passing out?  Truly passing out?  Did you get checked out by a doctor, because if you truly lost consciousness, it could be something other than anxiety, such as nutritional deficiencies.  Some people use that term more colloquially, so don't know if you truly mean you fell in the shower because you blacked out.  if that happened, you need checking out.  As for deja vu, lots of people get this.  Only an anxious person gets bothered by it.  Otherwise it would just be interesting, right?  Also, how long have you been on the Paxil and did these symptoms start only after you started taking it?  Drugs have side effects that differ by the person, but that drug was very sedating for me.  It can also affect magnesium absorption.  As for "breakthrough" anxiety, that's really not a thing.  Drugs rarely completely rid us of our problems, they just mitigate the symptoms.  They are not a cure.

This is a typical anxiety and stress symptom it's called depersonalization thats what causes the dream like state I also get it a lot and deja vu also accompanies it. Just ignore it and it starts to die down.

Dear All, I don't really experience Deja Vu but everyday seems like I am living in a dream state, everything is brighter than usual when the sun is out and darker than usual when it's night time. For example, if everyone has been really high on marijuana before and the way you see things while you are on it, then that's kind of how I feel. I know I have anxiety but I am not sure if this is one of the symptoms. Just for the record, I smoked weed in the past but not in high quantities. I also have this non stop chatter box in my head. I am always anticipation what people are going to say, I constantly repeat a song that I hear over and over and I narrate my daily life. It's very annoying and exhausting. Does anyone else experience this?

Its funny you mention that, I get it all the time and have noticed it since I was young. Sometimes is so severe it feels like a vivid dream.

or maybe it just means youre on the right path man.. that you are supposed to be doing that exact thing at that exact time. maybe the feeling of deja vu is just the feeling of familiarity bc youve lived this life before in the sense that you are living it right now and time is infinite so that means it doesnt really exist at the same time as being completely real

This anxiety or panic. Could be a flashback. Not deja vu. Deja vu does not make you feel scared. Maybe surprised.

Wow the same thing happens to me when I'm taking an exam, I get deja vus and freak out and my heart starts beating really fast and I have to put my head in my hands for a second to calm myself down. I'm always worried that I'm going to have to leave the room. It also happens in uncomfortable situations, like if I have to make a presentation or something. This has never happened to me until recently, I used to be fine in situations like these. I'm hoping it will just stop, because I really don't want to go on medication. Unless it's medical marijuana.. haha, I wonder if that would help?

So I learned something - flashbacks and deja vu aren't the same things  = )

My shrink told me once that deja vu was like a "hiccup" in the brain making us feel that we'd been there and done things before.

It is a strange feeling.

Hi There Shell.   I have had many deja vu episodes. Very strange feeling like you have been there and done that before. And it will happen right out of the blue. Very strange indeed.

yeah i have the most ridiculous deja vus of all time and it always occurs during a stressful situation... For instance, i'm a university student and i've had about 5 dejavus while writing an exam... i'll briefly lookup from my exam and realize that i've been here before, seen all these people before, seen the people in the same seating arrangement, and like the prof will be doing the exact same motion with his hand or be taking a drink and i can almost predict what's going to happen next.... the chain of events that seem's spookily familiar honestly last for like a full 30 seconds for me and it really freaks me out. I used to have deja vu before i developed this full blown anxiety thing but never to this extent... it's messed up and creepy i think.

Yes, it is more of a sensation that when I do something I have the sensation that I have done the exact same thing at that exact same moment.  There have been times that a whole entire converstation has given me the sensation of deja vu.  It is really starting to freak me out, because it kind of happens in "flares".  I will be fine for a few weeks, months and then "BAM" I start having these episodes.

To LONEWOLF07:  I understand what you mean, but I really wouldn't say they are "flashbacks" and I don't think I suffer from PTSD because nothing has happened in my life to cause me to have it.  I have read on the internet that it could also be a problem within the temporal lobe.  Not too sure if that is my problem but I think I going to keep a watch on it.

yes, but it's always vert subtle, like i'll be sitting somewhere, and someone will say something, and i'll feel like i've heard that same thing in that same place, but i can't actually picture it happening

Yes but I call these episodes "flashbacks" and have considered them to be a manifestation of PTSD.  Deja vu, as I understand it, is the feeling of having been somewhere, done something but not remember where or when.  Deja vu is French for "already seen".  I'm a nerd but I mean well and don't want to detract from your concerns.

Good thoughts to you ....
