Are nightmares a side effect for Celexa

by ChelseaRB, Aug 18, 2009 12:38PM
I have been on Celexa for a little over a month now, before that i was taking lexapro for my depression and anxiety disorder, and although both my anxiety level and my depression have gotten better i have been having vivid nightmares. Which makes my anxiety skyrocket right before bed, i have at least one nightmare per night i often have one wake up from it go back to sleep have anther and so on. I was just wondering if anyone knows if nightmares are side effects of this medication.

Ive been taking antidepressants for a while now and yes they do cause abnormal dreams...strange nightmares that make me wake up in a crappy mood, so vivid that are so hard to shake off...errr They come and go though, its usually near the beginning of the medicine...its perfectly normal, so dont get caught up on it, try to think happy thoughts before bed so that ur dreams are not so bad...I usually have nightmares about death and killing or something brutal..its creepy:( but they will fade dont worry!

You might try a homeopathic remedy called Calm's Forte before bedtime.  It might help with the restless thoughts.  I got vivid dreams on Paxil, but I kind of liked them, and I get some nightmares on Lexapro, at least those rare nights when I can get into a deep enough sleep for them, but nightmares are just your brain shedding superfluous matter, nothing to worry about.  They also make for good short stories, if you're into that kind of thing.
