Based on my symptoms: Lexapro or Pristiq?

Hello,

These are symptoms I've had for about a year now:

Off-balnce/unwound feeling (imagine an unwound sewing spindle), fatigue, lack of energy, general weakness, roller coaster digestive symptoms (abdominal pain, rectal spasms, gas-top & bottom all day long, bloating, some soft stools, anxiety.

I was on Remeron since the first week of September and dropped it because my Liver Function tests came back high. I was also taking a whole bunch of supplements at the time and don't know what caused the high numbers so I dropped every pill.

I am 25 year old male, 5'10, 145 lbs, I have delayed Gastric Emptying (as seen on a Gastric Emptying Study) and struggle to NOT lose weight, I actually want to gain weight.

Differing doctors have mentioned 2 pills to me and I'm wondering which one sounds best based on my symptoms: Lexapro or Pristiq?

Hello there,

Basically your doctor gave you choice between 2 class of drug. One being selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) like Lexapro and the other being serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) like Pristiq. (Pristiq is being targeted as the first non-hormonal based treatment for menopause.)

In my humble opinion, and consider that i'm not a doctor, i would talk to you doctor about Cymbalta. It's also a new drug from the same company (Pristiq's company) but some a lot of people have reported an increase in energy. Including myself, and Cymbalta is also good a treating other condition related with pain which might be a bonus. Note that some people reported a lack of energy too.

Lexapro is not a bad choice either since it's the second on my list and first on many doctor's list and studies are saying that overall, Lexapro and Cymbalta showed the best results.

You must know that one size does not fit all concerning drugs. Some people had a bad experience with Lexapro and went to Cymbalta and it was a life saver and the same is true for Cymbalta.

Final word, I woud choice between Lexapro and Cymbalta and you must note that i'm not a doctor and you should talk about it with you doctor prior making a decision.

This last week I have started on Pristiz. I feel like someone took a rock off of me. I actually feel like a human.I have been on so many drugs. But so far I have been thanking God for this one. I tried Lexapro before, it did make me fee better, but I seemed to sweat alot. Good luck.

Just my opinion Lexapro has worked great for me, after a couple of weeks i got my appitite back....and i eat good now, which has helped my body. I was on klonpin forever everyday. Now i just take 10mgs of lexapro a night. I will have a bad day once in a while...but hey who doesn't...lol Never tryed pristiq, but many others. Good Luck
