Do you fear all health care professionals, or just blood presure tests?
Many people have 'health' related anxieties. It's pretty common...how about dentists!!!
Who likes going to them???
In a way I think 'healh care' forces us to face our mortality. Few people like the idea of getting sick or older and what that may bring for them, either consciously or subconsciously.
hi mamasock, just went throught this myself, everytime i go to dr its high so i got scared went to my cardio dr. it was 150/93 so she had me do a echo of heart and a 24hour bp monitor..
just came back from dr 3 hours ago my test were great echo said heart looks great no problems and 24 hour moniotr showed my bp was low 106/60 highest it got in 24 hours.
but let me go to a dr and it shoots right up there today it was again 150/90. last week i went to med first with my mom had them to just take mine it was 148/88 so am the same way .
ask your dr for a 24 hour bp montor and than you will see how low it is when not under stress. funny how we can do that i even had chest pains with mine and got it up to 179/88 took ativan it came right down. so my dr said see you in a year and stop worring
It's having my blood pressure taken. I have what people call the white coat syndrome. You would like since I work in the medical field I wouldn't have this but I do. I have had this problem ever since I had my second son. So now whenever anyone wants to take my blood pressure it goes up. I was in the dentist office yesterday going to have an implant put in my mouth so they took my pressure and of course it was high. I tried to explain to them that this always happens when I have it taken but unfortunately they couldn't do the procedure. Their going to call something in to relax me before having it done. I wish there was a way that I can get over this fear.
I have my own blood pressure cuff and stethescope at home I do take it every now and then and it's normal. I know I bring it up by freaking out just thinking about having it taken. I just wish I can somehow some kind of mind over matter thing and bring it to normal when I'm in a doctor's office.
i hear you , i do the same thing, but sometimes i get it high when i take it myself lol
i can hear it pumping up getting tight on my arm and i shot mine right up there lol, silly i know. if you find a answer to this let me know i sure could use on to if i find a answer to it i let you know
It's nice to talk to someone that has the same kind of fears. Yeah I've done that to when I take my own the first time is high then I have to sit there and relax and take it a few times before it's normal. It's amazing what our minds do to us. It sure has control over us. LOL If I find a solution to our fears I will let you know.
i too have this unfounded fear of my blood pressure being taken,as soon as that cuff goes on its like i give a large adreniline shot straight to the heart and i can feel my pulse banging, ive had it since the army and its the embarrasment also that adds to it ,does that describe the feeling that anyone else gets?
My age is 64 I am al,so victim of Blood prussure Machine, If I decide to go measure my BP my palpitation starts and when I met doctor and doctor put pressure tube on hand my pressure starts automaticaly increasing and finaly doctor says what is this your BP: is above 190/130 I do not understand how to overcome on this fear
