Blood and needle phobia

I am 18 and very fit and well except that I have a really bad blood and needle phobia. I pass out cold at the sight
of blood needles and at the dentist. I have been fainting since I was a young boy but recently just the thought of
blood or going to the dentist is enough to make me pass out. My parents were told that I am vasovagel and that
as I get older the fainting should stop. Yesterday at college I fainted for the first time without seeing blood or
needles and again today I almost fainted on the bus. Do you think these last two episodes are all part of my
phobia or do I need to get it checked out?

Definitely like the others above stated, get to your doctor's and get this checked out.  You want to find out what is going on.

Let us know what the doctor says!

With being vasovagel you can also faint if standing in hot crowded areas, or during extreme pain. Also, changing positions too quickly can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure causing one to faint. There are many causes for one to just pass out, low blood sugar, epilepsy and dehydration are just a few.  Pay attention and remember if you had a headache, dizziness or heart palpitations just prior to passing out, this can help your doctor diagnose the problem.  Since this is the first time you've done this when not seeing blood or needles, you should contact your doctor and see what he has to say. Hope this helps and take care.

If you have to get your blood drawn, just close your eyes during the procedure.

Fainting at the sight of blood is common.

Clearly you should get a general physical examination. Oftten there is a co-factor such as dehydration or anemia.
