Burning Feet Help PLZ!

by 396SS, Jun 13, 2007 12:00AM
I may have asked before, but my feet are killing me.  Anyone have burning sensations anywhere?  My calves even got really weak for a few months and I have twitches and tremors more often than not.  I am going on 11 months of this and it is really hurting!  I am told it could be my anxiety.  Another opinion is viral.  I take Neurontin and Cymbalta - they aren't helping lately.  Chronic pain is really nothing to laugh at!  It is starting to depress me.  I've tried chiropractic too.  My neurologist is good.  He tested me for virus titers and they came up positive (higher than norm IgM) for HSV-1 (cold sore virus), CMV and HHV6.  I've never had a cold sore, but he put me on antivirals and said that it's had little research, but it's possible that viruses can manifest in other tissues (as in other than a cold sore) Anyone with any ideas??

This may sound silly, but years ago my husband had a feeling that his feet were hot and burning. They didn't feel hot to the touch but felt like there were very hot to him. Doctors couldn't help him but a native told him to eat cherries and it would go away. He did and it did. I don't have a clue if the two were actually related, but who knows, it may help. Chronic pain is nothing to laugh at.

Have you been tested for Plantar Faciitis?  I was diagnosed with that about a year ago and had that burning sensation in the beginning and I still feel it sometimes.  My feel hurt when I walk too much or when I subject them to too much impact.

I have the EXACT same condition you do.  Here is my story and I hope this can help.  I have had burning/stinging feet for the last 10 years.  Up until last year I just fought through the pain and discomfort.

The first foot doc I went to told me it was Plantar Fasciitis, charged me $650 for custom shoe inserts and said in 2 mths I would be fine.  6 mnths later I was looking for another form of relief.

Like I said...I just pushed through the pain.  Last August I went to my regular doc..said "my feet hurt" and he gave me my first Lortab...lT WORKED for about 2 hrs.  One pill a day turned into 2 which turned into 3 and finally he said "go to a pain mgmt doc."  So I did..it was the worst mistake I have ever made.

This pain doc put my on a Fentanyl Patch which worked for the first few days.  Next visit he upped the dosage and finally rested on a 75mcg patch every 48 hours.  I am not a doctor and I never knew that there was a pain med stronger tham morphine.  Fentanyl makes Morphine look like baby asprin.  This went on for 4 mths and I decided I did not want to be on that strong pain med and quit...made the pain doc REALLY MAD!

Here is where it gets interesting.  I have now seen 9 docs ranging from Chiropractors to Neurologist and have yet to get the same  diagnosis.  I have been checked for "Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome" but with pain in both feet the Orthopedic Surgeon I was seeing just told me "I cant help you" and sent me packing.

I went to a Pediatrist and he wanted to inject both feet a total of 22 times over a 4 month period...NO WAY!  Quit going to him.

This past Monday I went to a spine hospital to have an epidural injection into my back because the last neurologist thinks I may have a bulging disk pressing on my sciatic nerve.  Even I could see on my MRI that one of my disks is not like the others.  I had a neurologist, chiropractor and ortho surgeonn look at my MRI's and all of them had a different oppinion.  Anyway...the injection did not work.

As of now I'm looking at going back on pain meds.  What I have noticed is today, for some reason, I had a panic attack which made my feet hurt worse.  I'm hoping I can get this anxiety under control.  Best of luck to you.
