Burning Sensation & "Vibrations" in the chest

by Pink66, Sep 09, 2009 11:48AM
Hello!    I'm hoping someone can help me.   I'm 43 yrs old and have been dealing w/anxiety off and on for over 6 years and I hate it!    I can go along fine with no episodes, then out of nowhere, here it comes.    The 2 things that drive me nuts is a burning sensation that comes over my body....I literally feel like someone has set me on fire.    The other is what I call a "vibration" or "buzzing" in my body.    Has anyone else ever had this?    Is this anxiety?    This stuff scares me to death!   Please help.    Is there ever any "cure" for this?

Yes!!!! Until I read your comments I have been trying to think of a way to describe those sensations!
I have what I call vibrations (like my cell phone is vibrating next to my body) but buzzing is a much better description! It is very hard to pinpoint but mostly what feels like it is on the surface of the chest region.
I do not feel physically tense, but I do catch myself hunching my sholders sometimes.
I can fall asleep pretty easily and the vibrations occur in the middle of the night then I cannot go back to sleep!
Will medication help? If so, what? What type of physician should be seen?
Thanks.

I also notice during these buzzing episodes that sometimes my tounge feels as if it is being flooded with something, perhaps some type of hormonal reaction.
Any reassuring comments are welcome!
Thank you.

Hi there,

Sorry...I haven't been on here in a while.

Well, the good thing is, I'm not alone with these crazy sensations and neither are you!   I have no clue exactly what it is, but I figured out a long time ago that it was related to anxiety.    Like you, I notice it when I wake up in the middle of the night...that's what usually wakes me up.    I've gotten better about ignoring it and going back to sleep, but there are times that it drives me crazy!     I think it's probably there during the day, but we are busy and are not in tune to our bodies as we are when it's settled in at night.    Anxiety issues are always worse for me at night, to the point that I dread bed time.    I can see how someone could easily get hooked on sleep aids.   I take klonopin for anxiety on an as needed basis.   Other than that, nothing else right now.   I have been on Lexapro and it helped, it just made me really tired and I had achey (achy) legs.

Hi,

As I told epm081212 in an earlier message, I only take Klonopin on an as needed basis.   I've taken Lexapro in the past and it helped, just the side effects were bothersome.    I don't know how old you are, but since I'm 43, I think a lot of this is hormonal.    I'm also a constant worrier and and "what if'er" so the cards are not stacked in my favor!     Actually, all of my problems started after I had my child.    I had terrible post partum and it scared me to death!     Then, 2 years later, I was in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack...couldn't believe it when they said it was anxiety.    In our minds, we're thinking it cannot be that!    It's a rough road to travel, but I think once you learn what your symptoms are and look out for then, then they don't scare you as much.    It's when you have a NEW symptom that the cycle of worry starts all over again.
