Hey, i know exactly what you mean because a small amount of coffee helps me out with gad also...but like you said, too much and im having delusions basically! It might have to do with the relationship between caffiene and its ability to help us focus. When im having gad it is a pretty vague , un-focused, nagging thing.. Dunno if that helps but thats how i understand it.
Caffeine is a stimulant and makes anxiety worse. You may find comfort in the moment of relaxing with a cup of coffee, but the caffeine is not helping your anxiety. As for cigarettes.....they always catch up with you!! You will pay for this eventually and will regret every "puff" you took.
No it does the opposite for me!
i do both of those too but do know it makes it worse. Too much caffiene is like poison for GAD and the chemicals and oxygen issues with cigarettes are the worst. I do know a little does help get me going, but no more than about a half cup or i pay dearly with symptoms of anxiety. I do keep smoking to a minimum too, well you know, as it does increase the heart rate as well. I guess if you can notice what and why it is it might not effect you as much but we can't kid ourselves that those two things do contribute to our issue
I'm not sure! I have GAD too, and everyone tells me to stay away from caffeine, so Ive been doing half decaf half regular & see no difference in my mood or levels of anxiety. I think it all depends on the person. I also smoke ciggerates too (whoops) & they say thats supposed to be bad for GAD sufferers too. Shh, if its not hurting, I say enjoy :)
