Can Anxiety cause this? Please Read

Is it possible that high levels of stress and anxiety can cause what feels like a cold electric shock like sensation? It last for about 1 to 2 seconds. At times, I feel it every 30 seconds, for minutes on. Other times, I don't feel it for like an hour or more. This has been going on for 10 days now. I have felt it on every part of my body. From me head to my face, legs, hands, arms, butt, etc.

Im a 28 year old male, in good shape and I consider a common cold to be very sick. Well about ten 10 days ago I started getting a stuffy nose. Than I started feeling these sensations. Right away, I noticed that I became super stressed and was living on the internet trying to diagnose myself. I finally went to the ER this past Friday. A CT Scan of my brain was performed and everything came back normal. Blood test came back normal except for a slightly Low Lymphocyte and High Neutrophills. My Lymphocytes was 16 and 17-45 was considered normal range. My Neutrophills came back at 79 and 40-70 was considered normal. The Doctor in the ER performed a standard neurological exam and stated that Neurologically I was perfectly fine and my Lab Results were as well. I asked him than why was my Lymphocytes low and Neutrophills High? He stated since my Absolute Lymphocytes were normal that I had no concerns regarding my Lymphocytes. He said the high Neutrophills can be easily due to stress and anxiety or maybe a bacterial infection (stuffy nose). All my other results came out normal.

The Dr. said that my anxiety and stress could be causing these sensations. Well here I am 3 days after visiting the ER and im still on the internet and freaking out. So, my ? to anyone here who suffers form stress and or anxiety, have you every felt these sensations that Im describing and have you felt them everywhere on your body?

I have felt many sensations over the years to include pains, shocks, palpatations, etc.  Many times we have these sensations every day; it is how we interpret them that can get us into trouble.  (After your doc says you are fine of course).   It is not a problem and you will find that there are many people that are going through and have gone through almost exactly what you are experiencing.

Anxiety can cause a lot of symptoms.  The answer to your question, is an emphatic 'yes.'  In my opinion, when we worry about our health we tend to oversensitize and interpret different sensations catastrophically.  The simple fact that you are hunting for a cause on the internet like so many people do when they are inflicted with this, in my opinion, if the doctor states you are fine then most likely you are.  Your age and your health is also on your side.  Panic/Anxiety can also strike out of the blue.  That is what happened one day to me in my late 20's.  I too was extremely in shape, never sick, and enjoyed life so, trust me, I know this initial shock can be very distressing.

So what do you do?  I say CONFRONT it.  If the doc says you are okay, maybe it is time to go talk about it with a therapist.  Once you learn about this, then you gain the knowledge to defeat it.  I know it sounds very oversimplified, but talking about it can really shed light on this pattern of thinking.  Please keep us posted!
