Can You Lose Your Tolerance To Xanax?

by Niwrad, Jan 26, 2008 10:15AM
I've been on .25mg of Alprozolam for about 2 months now.  I don't get anxiety attacks often, so I take the pills sporadically.  Some days I'll take 2, then I might go a couple days without taking one.  I've noticed that the pills don't really have the same affect on me that they did when I first started taking them.  My guess would be that I've grown somewhat tolerant to the drug as I've read that this can take place.

My question is if I don't take the pills for a couple months, will I lose that tolerance and be able to go back on the drug and get the results I did when I first started?  Or if there is a certain timeframe that would allow that tolerance to wear off?  Any help is appreciated.

2 months isn't that much time really. If you said 2 years I would have said yes, that the body has got used to them and to get the same kick you got when you first start taken them, you would need that little bit extra. But you are on a low dosage and trust me when I say that you are best off keeping on that low dosage and if you need, go find some other form of medication, should things get worse that is. As for time frames? If you stop a tablet for a period of months it would clearing out your system of that tablet. You probably would need to let it get back into your system again to see any sort of effects at all.
