Can a person have anxiety symptoms without actally having an attack?

Ok well as I have posted just yesterday but for those of you who dont know I have a lot of stomach problems and have been having problems for over a year. Now Im seeing a Gaterologist for it and am getting some test done to figure it out. Well now ever since I donated Plasma for the 2nd time over a month ago and nearly fainted from it I will get these dizzyness spells and feel like Im going to pass out at times. Somtimes my heart will start beating fast/skipping beats which scares me even more I break into a sweat and feel like I cant breah. Thats when I actally have a panic attack which is the worse feeling in the world but I dont normally have a panic attack very often. I can feel like Im about to have one but thankfully it never lasts more then a few seconds to a few minutes. Most of the time I just feel dizzy and out of it. Sometimes its hard for me to concentrate when I read things or like its putting pressure on my head and straing my eyes to focus so I have to look away several times. These symptoms come and go through out the day but Im not actally having an attack. Is that possible for anxiety or could I have something else wrong along with my stomach problems? I dont think my stomach problems are related and my GI doctor didnt seem to think so either. I notice I cant sleep all through the night anymore either. I will wake up a few times and then fall back asleep. Lastnight I got woke up by my son. I got up real fast and I felt dizzy like I was going to fall over and I couldnt breath very good like I was panicing but I was really tired so I laid back down and almost fell asleep and got jolted up from it because I just felt really scared, nervous like I just couldnt breath very well but I apparently did fall back asleep shortly afterwards. Does anyone else ever wake up and have like a panic attack for no reason? My eyes are also senseitive to light espically at night and one eye is a lot blurrier then the other which I know is common but it just seems worse then what it use to be. I use to think I was near sighted in one eye and far sighted out of the other so maybe thats the case but I dont know why I feel out of it and senestive to light and why it feels like its hard for me to concentrate or like im straing my eyes at times. I had a few nights were my eyes would feel very heavy like I took a bunch of sleep medicen but I couldnt sleep because I felt so dizzy. I was just wondering if anyone else had vision changes and have woke up with panic or anxiety for no reason? I dont know if anxiety can cause vision changes or not or if its possible to have anxiety symptoms off and on during the day without actally having an attack. Im trying to get an appointment in with just my regular doctor to see if she can figure out if its anxiety or something else causing me all of these other symptoms. I do have a fear of dieing and passing out so Im wondering if this is why im having such a hard time now. Anxiety and stomach problems does run in my family but I was always able to control my anxiety up until I started blacking out at the Plasma center. Please let me know your thoughts and if you have ever experienced these same symptoms with anxiety.

Hey,

where to begin?

Anxiety, or fear, can cause any physiological and even psychological reaction! I have gone through many anxiety episodes and am still going through one now. I have also got fully better from them in the past and I am optimistic. I am especially optimistic lately because I have arrived at the belief that life is perfectly fair, and that I believe this, I realize that there is a reason behind my suffering, and I can liberate from it! In other words, I believe that all of my suffering/anxiety is either teaching me important life lessons, or if it is inevitable suffering then it creates beauty and happiness in me. This is because suffering is what makes us beautiful. I hope that makes sense, I am glad to try and explain further.

But just to assure you, anxiety can cause all your symptoms, and I believe you have anxiety! When you go to your doctor and get a physical exam, they will be able to tell you if you have a neurological/physical disease! If you test good, you can be sure that you have anxiety, and make the right initiative to solve it, and better your life!!

I actually experience anxiety like you. It is more of a chronic (ongoing) array of symptoms and fear, which concern us very much, but actual panic attacks are infrequent. It is very possible for someone to experience anxiety and anxiety symptoms and not have attacks, Attacks are just common and likely.

You may have some other minor physical ailments going on like that thing with your eyesight. But I get head pressure, like constantly, from anxiety, and at times my eyes strain. These are also fairly common symptoms of anxiety/stress/ and depression. It is known for these conditions to cause difficulty concentrating!! In the past, My eyesight got so bad from stress that I felt I was needing glasses, it made me drop out of school at the time. But I went back after a while and finished.

So, I just wanted to respond to you. If you have any questions just let me know.

Dearly,
Ash

Yes, it is absolutely possible to have anxiety symptoms like the ones you describe on and off during the day, or on some days and not on others, without having full-blown anxiety attacks. It is always a good idea to see your doctor for reassurance if you're having new symptoms, but everything you describe sounds entirely consistent with anxiety. Panic/anxiety attacks often come from "out of the blue" when you're not feeling particularly anxious at all. I know that it is when I am starting to realize I feel good again and no longer anxious that I get struck by another physical symptom, usually heart palpitations or a weird feeling around my eyes, seemingly out of nowhere, trying to drag me back into the whole vicious cycle.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah its a horrible thing. Im just hopeing once I get help for my stomach problems this anxiety will go away. I did tell my doctor about these other symptoms along with my stomach problems but it was the 1st visit I ever had with her and she just kept looking at me without saying anything. I guess she was confused or just didn't know what to tell me. I did ask her if she thought the dizzyness could be caused from like an inner ear infection she just said no because my throat would hurt or I would have ear pain. She said she would have to further evaluate me to know for sure and it could be related to my stomach so she thought I should wait and see what my GI doctor figures out and if I still have these other symptoms then I could go back. After that I went to my GI doctor and he didn't seem to think they were related to my stomach and asked if I seen my regular doctor over it. So Im trying to get an appointment to see my doctor just these anxiety like symptoms because if this is anxiety Im getting pretty bad so I think I need some medicen and hopefully when they figure out what's wrong with my stomach I will get over my anxiety. I don't want to be stuck with it like some of my family members are. I was feeling ok yesterday until I tried to eat dinner then I almost had a panic attack because I was worried about the food bothering my stomach and today the anxiety has been really bothering me. Thanks for the infortmation that does ease my mind a little. Has anyone ever had vision changes or feel paniced and sick if you suddenly get woke up during the night?

Thank you! Yeah, I dont have a stressful life if I wasnt always feeling sick then I would be a really happy person and I would be going to beauty school. I think I was unforuntate enough to inherite anxiety from my dads side of the family. Im just hopeing this isent permant. I think its all caused from nearly blacking out and all of my stomach problems really acting up lately it somehow must of triggered it off. Early I had really bad anxiety now Im feeling ok. Even on the days my stomach gives me a break it seems like I have to have anxiety and Im not sure why Im always so scared or nervous. I do know Im worried about the EGD but I know its not suppose to be a big deal. Im just worried I will have a panic attack or a bad reaction to the sleep medicen. Im trying to not think about all that and just think that maybe they will be able to figure out whats wrong with me. I do know what you mean about the eyesight problems. I kept thinking I just needed glasses but right now I can see ok it just usually seems a lot more noticeable at night for some reason but not constantly and my head usually bothers me like dizzy and out of it or hard to focus on things. Its a really bad scary feeling but anything anxiety related is. Anyway Im done rambleing for now.

Hey, I know you say you are hoping the doctors will figure out what is wrong with you, but you also seem to be aware that you have anxiety. Do you understand that anxiety could, and very well may be the cause of all your symptoms?  I am guessing an EGD is a exray test, right? You must have a warm home life, with your kid and husband, no? Just because anxiety may run in the family, doesn't mean it is our destiny! Anxiety can be cured, completely, and this is medical science consensus. Have a nice night, and I'm glad to talk.  Ash

Hey, I dont know for sure if its anxiety or not thats why I really want to get in to see my doctor again to get some test done. I deffinatly dont want this to be my destiny because before I nearly fainted from donating Plasma I wasnt like this I just had a lot of stomach problems so I know that my stmomach is not caused from anxiety if thats even what I have. EGD is where they put me to sleep and put a tube down my throat with a camera on it to check out the inside of my stomach. I think if these other symptoms are anxiety then maybe I will get better once they figure out what is causing me so many stomach problems. Today I have been doing better. I was gone all day out shopping and my stomach has been giving me a break but these anxiety like symptoms usually come and go through out the day because I always worry about it but these past few days it hasnt been bothering me near as much. At points I will have certain symptoms but today it hasnt been anything major like It has been which is nice. I just hope I can stay this way either way I wont let it keep me from getting out because thats the worse thing someone could do.

First, it is alright to not go out, especially when you are not feeling well and are figuring out your life. In my experience, anxiety has debilitated me so badly that I wouldn't be able to walk down the driveway of my moms place without having to turn back. I thought I was dying of a physical disease. I just want to let you know that anxiety can make us sick. And, of course we can get better! Anxiety can cause stomach problems. I mean, by your explanation it sounds life you have had an ongoing diagnosed physical stomach problem.. which I am not denying. But Anxiety may be making your stomach problem worse, as focusing on a concern or problem can cause it to become a reality. You can probably, right now, direct your attention to your right toes, and think about them, and you will feel them in some way. But before focusing on them, they almost didn't even exist.
But even if you have a physical disease, it doesn't sound like it is very bad. I mean, before the anxiety, your stomach had that same problem, right? But did it affect your whole being? No, right? That should tell you right there that what is bothering you is your anxiety, and not really your stomach.
Additionally, struggle is what makes us beautiful, if we have no struggle, we have no beauty. Or, the more we struggle, the more beautiful we are. But having said that, it is important to understand that we must do our best to avoid suffering, and creating suffering for others. Otherwise our suffering is self-induced. this leads to shame. But when we do our best, and be responsible, we still face a lot of suffering, struggle, and hardship.. and this kind of inevitable suffering is what makes us beautiful.. appreciative, wise and loving, etc.
So, in other words, knowing this, you should do your best to help your stomach. But be able to accept the disease, if any, and embrace the beauty, humbleness and gratefulness that comes with the struggle. Does this make sense?

Well, you sound like you are doing pretty well!! And again, you have a beautiful family, I believe! :)

Dearly,
Ash

ps- thanks for the best answer :)

Again thanks and yes I know if anxiety is making someone terribly ill then its ok to stay home but its not good to make it a habit and just stay isolated from society. If that's the case then how are we suppose to ever get over things that bother us and makes us nervous? I have family members that couldn't go anywhere by their self or drive because their anxiety was so bad. Sometimes it helps me going out and sometimes it makes me worse. Lately its been worse because of the fear I have of blacking out or have a panic attack. I have been talking to a girl that has the exact same symptoms as me anxiety and vision wise. Her doctor is giving her a CT scan because he seen swelling behind her left eye and he's checking her for a brain tumor even though he knows about her anxiety. Her doctor didn't seem to think the vision changes were anxiety related. I think it is anxiety that's making me feel dizzy, heart palpations and difficulty breathing but the  vision changes makes me concerned even though its just going to make me worse to worry about it. Before all of this my stomach problems has affected my life. I would get sick almost every night and sometimes nothing helped. That's why I have been to 7 different doctors so far over it. Its just off and on somedays are good others bad lately its either my stomach or anxiety symptoms so it could of made it worse espically when I first started having all of these anxiety symptoms because I got terrible ill and lost weight from it. I couldn't figure out why it all of a sudden made me so sick all at once. For now my stomach hasn't been near as bad just before and a lil after I eat but the anxiety has been bothering me off and on through out the day. Im not sure what to do about it or how to get my mind off of it. Got any advice on how to get your mind off of it? Im sorry your anxiety made you so sick. How are you doing now? How did you get your anxiety under control? How did your doctor decide you have anxiety and not something else? Sorry Im asking so many questions but its all been about my problems so now Im curious about what you have went through. If you need someone to talk to you can message me. Sometimes its nice just to have someone to talk to.

First, I want to assure you that anxiety can cause head pressure and eye strain!! I know cos I had this as a symptom from anxiety in the past, and I still get it, as I am dealing with an other episode. Your doctor will be able to tell you by a physical exam! Among other things in checking your reflexes, your doctor will look into your eyes with a light, and if they see irregular dialation, or your eyes dialating at different times and sizes, then they will suspect a disease, like a tumor, and want to do tests. But some doctors want to do tests anyway cos its a way for hospitals to make money! So hopefully you get a doctor that refuses to do a test. If s/he tells you you're fine, then you can know it is anxiety.. because your symptoms are so bad, that if it was a neurological/organic disease then it would clearly show up in a physical exam, right?!! I know you were mentioning something about a test, sorry to have forgotten exactly what it is, and what for!

What I have learned, or am still learning, is that closing myself off from people has allowed me to do good self reflection. If you are outgoing and immersed in society, you may lose yourself and never have examined what exactly it is you want out of life. Yes, I am a bit lonely, and I have faced much despair and fear, but I would say I am doing much better now because I see things differently, because I gave myself some time to grow! I am able to see now that I no longer care to hang out with guys and do the things I used to do.. i am not interested in it. I have become more humble, and more lovable and therefore attractive to woman (in my case :)) !  It is my belief that anxiety/fear and self concern is a result of being confused of who we are and what we really want out of life. But it is, I believe, not so much a matter of finding a personal identity, as much as it is identifying with values and beliefs that make us truely happy. So it's not like I have adopted a new persona, where now I am a new person, rather, I am more humble, and more responsible, which was lessons which I have been needing to learn, and now I am happier. I mean, It has come with a lot of disappointment, but I believe that my disappointment does not outweigh the lessons I am learning. Just like I don't believe that my struggle and suffering outweighs the beauty it comes with! :)  But yes, I do believe it is important to have a sense of connection and relationship with society. It's just that society can misguide us, and therefore, self reflection is healthy! But yeh, society is essential, cos we all have so much n common, and we help each other and need each other!!

Right now I am alright.. not bad and not well. Sometimes I don't have control over my anxiety, so it feels. But I have arrived to the belief that existence is fair, and knowing this, I know that everything is alright!! So my advice to anyone is to understand that if we think that life is unfair, that there is no justification behind what we go through, and no meaning and beauty in our challenges, then we will be hopeless! But if we know that life is fair, perfectly fair, and if we know that we are compensated for out struggle with beauty, then we will be alright, and happy even. But here is the niche: we MUST do out absolute best. The Chinese say: "nothing good comes easy". Well, it's true. If it were easy to do our best, then we would live in a healthy society. But the principle is simple, we should try to do what is right. This is maybe a matter of living in every way that will cause least harm to yourself and others. When we are doing out best, then all the suffering we face is NOT self-induced, but rather, inevitable, and it makes us beautiful. But if we are the cause of our suffering, then this is misery!

Also, I know it is fear causing all my symptoms because I learned this twice before, when I got better!

At this point I am still insecure, and I get stressed and bad anxiety. but I am alright, and optimistic!

Yeah, we can talk anytime!  Let me know how things are going. I know that it is so hard to fathom that anxiety can cause debilitating symptom, but it really can! Write whenever!

Dearly,
Ash

ps- I actually have some anxiety now, so I wrote while having anxiety. it was a stressful day working with my dad and brother on trees (Family tree business). But anyway, Have a nice night, and talk with you soon ~~

Hey well today I have been feeling miserable stomach wise. It seems like I always have to have something weather its anxiety symptoms or stomach. My stomach was doing ok but not today. It hurts I feel like its hard to breath, it keeps growling and it has a lot of trapped air and acid but I cant really throw up anything besides getting some of the air out which is nice but I still feel bad. I am having a lil bit of anxiety I feel scared and nervous I get anxiety over my health because in general I have a nice unstressful life. Lastnight I woke up during the night feeling scared nervous, anxious, and like it was hard to breath but I wasnt sure why. Im getting to where I will wake up a few times during the night I cant ever sleep all the way through and Im not sure why. Do you ever wake up during the night feeling that way? I cant even work or go to school because of my stomach and now I guess anxiety. Im trying to keep my head up though because tomorrow morning I got a doctor appointment over my anxiety symptoms and my GI appointment for my Endoscopy is next Tuesday which Im still nervous about. I have a feeling my doctor will do some test on my anxiety symptoms because I went to her a few weeks ago told her ALL of my symtpoms and she just kept looking at me all confused or like she thought I was crazy. She just wouldnt hardly say anything for a few minutes so I guess she was confused and she said if Im still having problems with these other symptoms then I could go back to her and she would do some testing to try to figure it out. At first she thought it was related to my stomach but I have a feeling its not. Im going to give her another chance tomorrow and hopefully she wont seem so confused. Even if she does do some testing I wont care because I got insurance and I just want them to make sure as sick as I have been lately. Anymore it seems like the days are longer, boring and about the same Iguess because Im a stressed about my health and sometimes depressed. I will keep you updated on what the doctor says tomorrow. I want to wish you the best of luck with dealing with your anxiety.

Hey, Its me I am haveing a bad day too, i have my CT scan on wednesday and i am so afraid of what will show up,I dont know if its just me worring but i have been haveing some pain in differant parts of my head tonight, I didnt have any of that before and maybe its just that I am thinking about it to much about everything, however I hope that my symptoms are just anxiety related, I belive that yours are because i have those problems so many times before. However i wouldnt be so worried if my dr didnt see anything behind my eye, that scares me so much i am only 30 and i have 6 children who needs me so i am really hopeing that my CT scan will be ok, I really dont think it will and everyday i think i am going to die, I feel like i have lost control and that i am going crazy.... I keep looking for other non serious things that can cause swelling behind the eye, but nothin sounds good i feel like there is no way out.

I had an Endoscopy done last year for almost the same symptoms. I was nauseated, bloated, gassy, and had stomach pains on and off. When they were on, they would like a week if not more and when they were off I was fine. I had anxiety issues the whole time, always nervous about how I was feeling, couldn't sleep, etc.

The GI found NOTHING, I had an Endo & a GI Xray and the only thing they found was that my stomach was inflammed from the anxiety itself and I started taking Prilosec and after 1.5 years I am feeling almost 100% better.

My anxiety is not under control yet but I am working on it. When I do get nervous and have anxiety symptoms, my stomach may hurt but only for a day at the most where before it was week +. I think the Prilosec is helping calm the acid in my stomach down when I do have anxiety. Your GI system is the #1 system that is affected by anxiety.

I'd get the test done just to be sure. The test is simple, they put you out and you don't remember a thing! I'd also start on some Acidophilis or eat yogurt once a day. That can help balance out your gut and prevent some of the symptoms your're having.

Good luck!

Hey.

It sounds like your doctor is incompitant about anxiety! A lot of doctors are because 4 yrs of school will not educate you on life!

I would see another doctor, as tests involve high radio activity.

Yeah, it sounds like you are in the midst of dealing with an anxiety episode. A lot of people wake up in the mid of night several times.. like my healthy brother, who "has a lot on his mind" as his wife says!  I go back and forth. Lately I have been not getting the sleep I want, and yes, waking up either too early or in mid of night! I haven't been feeling afraid and anxious so much recently, which is nice, but I have felt this way before!

Difficulty breathing is a very common anxiety symptom, and I don't believe it is stomache related!!

Definate reach out to more professionals and wise people. you'll be fine! And write to me anytime!!

With love,

Ash

Hey all, well I went to my regular doctor today. I was sick all night couldn't sleep or eat anything and kept throwing up acid and air it was horrible. I think part of it was anxiety and from not being able to eat much because I was nervous and me and my bf got into a big argument lastnight so that really raised my anxiety. I can't eat a whole lot of dairy products because it seems to gas me up or make me feel naseated but on the days im feeling ok I can. The doctor said their was no for sure way to know until she does some testing on me. She didn't have my past blood test records so she just started from scratch and they withdrew 4 tubes of blood. She's also going to get a CT scan done on my head since I was worried about my vision changes. Im scared what the test will show but Im just trying to keep faith that I don't have anything like a brain tumor or stomach cancer. Maybe if these tests come ok out with the serious things ruled out it will put my mind at ease. Im nervous to get these tests done but I know I need them. My doctor also gave me Diazepam to help with my dizziness and just incase I am having anxiety until I get back my test results. My GI appointment for my Endoscopy is a week from today. Im still nervous about it but everyone keeps telling me its no big deal. Im just nervous about having a reaction to the medicen. Has anyone ever had a CT Scan over vision changes or took Diazepam? By the way I have tried several different acid reducers. I take Zantac to help reduce the acid but Its only temperaly and I still get sick if I go to long without eating.

I just wanted to update everyone on what I found out. I got my EGD done yesterday and its offical I do have Gasteris and Acid Reflux on top of it. I just produce to much acid but their not sure why. He prescribed me Nexium but I havent been able to take it yet because Im waiting for my insurance to approve it if not then it would cost $183 which is insane. Im glad I finally got dignosed but I just hope I will have more luck with Nexium then what I have been having with all the other acid reducers. I also went to my regular doctor today to discuss my lab work results. I do have lack of vitimin B12 and it could very well be the cause of these anxiety like symptoms and vision changes. I know I did have a panic attack but in general I would just feel sick for no reason so I know it wasnt just all anxiety. I have lack of vitimin B12 because I have to take acid reducers and my body just couldnt absorb it correctly. I have to get B12 shots monthly and probably will have to for the rest of my life unless my stomach gets fixed. My chelestrol was also high which is unusal because of my age and Im at normal weight but Im pretty sure its because I couldnt eat hardly anything besides eggs because I was having so much stomach problems. I will have to get rechecked for everything in 3 months along with my b12 shots. Im just glad this is all I have and not something life threatening like I felt like. Its ***** that Im going through all of this at my age but Im just hoping it is the lack of b12 thats causing me these other horrible symptoms. My doctor is also going to hold off on the CT Scan to save money and to see if these injections help relieve my symptoms. The other doctors I have seen just didnt ever test me for B12 or chlesterol because Its not common for someone my age. So Im likeing my new doctor a lot more now and Im really glad she finally found something that could be the cause of some of my symptoms. Only time will tell but Im just going to keep my fingers crossed.
